Neighborhood #3
Arcade Fire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Not really something to shout about
Ice has covered up my parents hands
Don't have any dreams, don't have any plans
I went out into the night
I went out to find some light
Kids are swingin' from the power lines
I woke up on the darkest night
Neighbors all were shoutin' that they found the light
(We found the light)
Shadows jumpin' all over my walls
Some of them big, some of them small
I went out into the night
I went out to pick a fight with anyone
Light a candle for the kids
Jesus Christ don't keep it hid
Ice has covered up my parents hands
Don't have any dreams don't have any plans
Growin' up in some strange storm
Nobody's cold, nobody's warm
I went out into the night
I went out to find some light
Kids are dyin' out in the snow
Look at them go, look at them go
And the power's out in the heart of man
Take it from your heart, put in your hand
What's the plan?
Is it a dream? Is it a lie?
I think I'll let you decide
Just light a candle for the kids
Jesus Christ don't keep it hid
Cause nothin's hid, from us kids
You ain't foolin' nobody with the lights out
And the power's out in the heart of man
Take it from your heart put in your hand
And there's something wrong in the heart of man
Take it from your heart, put it in your hand
Where'd you go?
The lyrics of the song Neighborhood #3 by Arcade Fire address the theme of growing up in a world that is both uncertain and dark. The first verse talks about waking up to a power outage, which is not something to be excited about, and how the ice has covered the parents' hands, making them helpless. The second verse talks about going out into the darkness of the night to find some light, where they see kids swinging from the power lines. The third verse explains how the neighbors found the light, but there are still shadows all over the walls, and how the person goes out into the night to fight anyone.
The chorus of the song talks about lighting a candle for the kids and not hiding it. The last verse of the song poses the question if everything that is happening is real or just a dream. It ends by asking where someone has gone.
Overall, the song paints a picture of chaos in a world where nothing seems certain. It is about people trying to find hope in the darkness and fighting for what is right.

This song makes me feel as if I were in a Norman beach, having fun.
Playing in the sand.
Then, a huge hurricane overtakes the sky. It starts trashing our belongings.
We flee in our 2000's red car, who was all the rage back then.
We ride it as the rain pours heavily on the glass windows of the vehicle.

Somehow... the first time I heard this song, just a couple of days of funeral being launched, the initial guitar chords rang a bell...
I thought... Cool... another New Order song!
I guess I never expected to be on the verge of discovering a all new taste for me...
Arcade Fire...
I bought the album instantly (there are things that its really a "crime" not to own)...
I bought Neon Bible on a prerelease... then the Suburbs... and now Reflektor...
They never ceasse to amaze me, how they bend their own limitations to create a all new sonority everytime...
It's probably the only band I've ever been ablle to compare to Talking Heads in those therms... every time new.
I do hope that some day I'll be saying about Arcade Fire as I say about TH... that I do own their complete work!
@kyradoone9040
The energy this song brings is absolutely insane
@Emme-Kappa
This song actually feels like standing in the middle of a snow storm in the dark with the cold wind hitting your face
@mapstomillions
I always play this when jogging out in winter, for some reason it fits better than any other song for that other than maybe "Cold Wind Blows" by eminem
@shredead
100% love this song for the same feel

@Hellothereboyos
Great band, not afraid to be big. Big soundscapes, big choruses, big emotions. Hope they grow to be real stadiumfillers.
@daksheshprasad9941
@Bröderna Söderholm they did.
@cesaradrianer
They did but now their music sucks
@mysticfellow9843
@@cesaradrianer It doesn't suck, it's just nothing like what it used to be. I hope they return to their roots eventually.
