1) Arcana is a neoclassical darkwave band from Sweden, formed in 1993. They merged classically- and medievally-inspired instrumental music with occasional vocals to arrive at a richly atmospheric and dark musical tapestry. Previously signed to the Cold Meat Industry label, the original line-up consisted of Peter Bjärgö and Ida Bengtsson, but since 2002 it changed and featured Peter Bjärgö, Ann-Mari Thim, Stefan Eriksson, Cecilia Bjärgö and Mattias Borgh. Due to personal issues with Cold Meat Industry Peter dropped from the label and created his own label and mailorder called Erebus Odora. The label no longer exists, but the same Erebus Odora still exists as the studio where he is still active making his own music.
Arcana's last live performance for a long time, probably for a year at first, took place on the 11th of December 2010 at the Dark Bombastic Evening II festival in Bucharest, Romania.

Since 1996, Arcana have been one of the leading bands in its genre. Peter Bjärgö (then Pettersson) started creating the music of Arcana after years of playing different kinds of music. The early idea of the music was based on the romantic image around the middle ages, through Peter’s own personal view. For the first three releases Ida Bengtsson joined Peter as the lead female vocal, and the band grew its fan base all over the world. In 2001 Ann-Mari Thim replaced Ida bengtsson as the new lead female vocalist along with Stefan Eriksson on keyboard and additional instruments. After the fourth release Peter Bjärgö left Cold Meat Industry, the first label of Arcana, to start an own label. The main reason was to preserve the personal touch of the music, Peter’s own sound and feelings, his creative independence.
In 2003 Peter's wife, Cecilia Bjärgö, also joined the band on vocals and in 2006 Mattias Borgh entered the band as percussionist. In 2010 the band expanded in live situations when Núria Luis and Sergio Gamez Martinez (Narsilion, Der Blaue Reiter, Endless Asylum) joined Arcana on stage and since then the music is pure authentic with no backtracks. The contribution of Sergio and Núria has been so productive as they are now consider full members of the band. The difficulties of rehearsing is though an issue, since two members live in Spain. But with the musicality and experiences of live performances, this is nothing that holds us back.
The man behind it all is still Peter Bjärgö, the composer and producer of the music. The music has changed from album to album and today you can hear sounds from all parts of the world since the instruments Peter use are global.

2) Arcana was a side project of bassist Bill Laswell’s. On "The Last Wave" Laswell joins his deep-bass to free music pioneer and guitar legend Derek Bailey together with drumming demigod Tony Williams to create the ultimate freely improvising power trio. The other album put out under this group name as a Laswell project was Arc of the Testimony, one of the last projects drummer Tony Williams would record before his untimely death. Instead of the trio format, Laswell adds guitarists Buckethead and Nicky Skopelitis, Graham Haynes on cornet, and saxophonists Byard Lancaster and Pharoah Sanders. Where The Last Wave harkens to Laswell's work in Last Exit, Arc of the Testimony is more along the lines of Ekstasis or some of the instrumental Material work, such as "Hallucination Engine".
3) Arcana was a Peruvian rock band who released 4 albums until they disbanded in 2007: a live demo called Demo/Vivo; their first studio album Trágalo in 2000, Virgen in 2003 and their last album Al Olvido in 2005. Their musical style was rock but had a similarity with Nirvana’s style (gaining with this being called “Nircana” or “Arvana” by close friends as as joke). Their last album featured another style, totally experimental and hard to define. In the lineup there was some changes but two of the founding members never changed Markko Kruz in the guitars/vocals and Micky Bane as a bassist. Drummer changed for each album: Italo Quintanilla on Tragalo, Giancarlo Cordiglia on Virgen and Daniel Limaco on Al Olvido.

Dark Age of Reason
Arcana Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
[Instrumental]
As the lyrics provided are instrumental and do not contain any words to interpret, it is impossible to provide an analysis of their meaning. However, the title of the song, "Dark Age of Reason," suggests a commentary on a time in history where intellect, logic and reason were suppressed. The use of instrumentation alone may serve to convey emotions and create a soundscape that represents the darkness and uncertainty of a time defined by a lack of reason.

Ricarpo Tillieman
This album, a specific track, made me seek to open my third eye, literally drawed me like that, poof and gone, a man that always respects science, like that. I did not seek the track, I was looking for a mod for a game, and this track played, its a bit like a calling.
Yes deep down I have always had faith of something more, and I have taken it a step further, I have taken science to support it, and I have found many small revelations where the 2 bridge and support one another, when people say light, science calls it electromagnetic-energy, yet it was light that brought structure to all of the universe, having perhaps a direct relationship to gravity, to pull, it is raw pure energy that allowed the gas to collect, allowed the stars, the sub-creators of the universe to form, Science is not against this, it supports it, science and faith together, like it was in the Renaissance, the man who founded the scientific method was a acute believer, a strong believer who believed in his heart that he did Science for his faith, for God, Francis Bacon, before that a man regarded as perhaps the first scientist, Alhazen, with his book of optics, his studies of light, Isaac Newton, with his calculus and prism to test light, all believers, Albert Einstein and his study of light, nuclear, radiation, light which is radiation, a fusion reaction similar to that which stars do, it has to mean something. I am now certain there is a possibility of something more, yet most of these revelations did not change my life at all, it did make me wiser, more open minded, and strangely enough, more humble.
They placed sea before land in Genesis, how?
Why would we, beings of ego, place something which we do not live upon as the center of it all, think about the flat earth theory, that made sense in that we would make something up like that, it was ego-based, we live on the Earth, we live on the ground and so we believe we are the center, but placing sea, a distant far environment, as before your own, the land, that is intuition, not ego, that is where the magic comes in, the very real magic.
It was formless, that is what they call "Dark Matter" and "Antimatter", scientists, no form existed in the universe, mostly gas, but then there was light, something had to cause the pull, the formation of stars, of solid matter, and it was a great light, why does this feel similar to the very first words of Genesis?
There are many flaws, contradictions, but beneath the clutter, the hubris that we could have added, the ego, is the truth.
Light goes far back in history, light has been an obsession of humanity from long ago, from the Neolithic period, we looked to the stars, to the light for guidance, in ancient Egypt we build pyramids where on the top, the capstone would reflect this great light, we love gold, where most gold comes from fallen stars.
We have a natural liking to light, maybe its because we more directly come from it. That is how they dated, they looked at the effect light has on matter, on a microscopic level, the oculus, they used, they measured the radioactive decay to determine the date of the Earth, what if light was the tool which created the Earth, how does one measure it, if one looks for the physical rather than something that we have yet to "see", all science is based upon seeing, observing, looking deeper.
The crystals, the Shamir, the Onyx Stone, the Philosopher's Stone, the occasionally linking of magic to crystals, well its real, not in the way of most would say, but in science it exists strongly, inside every semi-conductor is a carefully fabricated silicone crystalline, solar cells are generated via silicone crystalline, that new experimental quantum storage device which is a million times faster than magnetic storage works with trapping light inside a big silicone crystal, somehow allowing the quantum data to be stored and accessed.
It is a conduit, like the myths portray it as, it channels energy and can exert that stored energy or regulate energy, focus it. I understand there to be a lot of clutter, all born of the truth, the real source of the myth, but that is has a truthful source, that is so.
I was always stubborn to let go of my faith, even when all of the science showed itself before me, but I cracked, my ego, my pride, was nothing against the avalanche of facts.
What kept me going was not pride, it was longing, it was the concept and possibility of a purer world, a cleaner world, a sun that rises on the horizon, a great light, great hope, a new Eden. I dislike end, and current biological science says there is nothing, no purpose, no reason for living or dying, it tells you that your marriage is nothing more than a attempt at the massive cell called humanity to procreate and move forward, to what, to nothing...
How can something be for nothing and nothing be for something, The Bible never said there was nothing in the beginning, it said "formless", that is not nothing, nothing comes from nothing, only something can come from something.
All these revelations and more, the cockroach, mostly unchanged for 200-300 thousand years, all dating back to the time the first live treated upon the lands according to science, before the dinosaurs, I am not saying macro evolution is false, I am merely saying "it does not always have to be the truth". It is possible if a lifeform is adaptable enough like us, that we would need no change massively, and that generally we stayed the same, its possible, but it has been said that scientists do not care from where we come from, it is a mostly unfunded unpopular field. I can smell there is bias, maybe not a lot, but some, but this makes it a possibility that we have more to our origin that just that.

A most profound album. Pathways to my dreams and rampant imagination. Yearning for that lost and forlorn world.

I remember this album- one of the first that I bought myself with my own money. First got interested just because of artwork (not knowing what is "Arcana"), then I listened to it in the cd shop and was surprised how much I liked it. Good memories.

Βαγγελης Καρδιτσιωτης
if there is a feeling that express the dark heart of paganism, if there is a murmur among the arcades of medieval churches, if the light of a candle flickering in the cold wind, illuminates the vanity of this world... then it would be called Arcana...
