We Stood With Time
Arcane Sun Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And love itself sought our nectar, and time itself stood still...no man
before had tasted the fruits of such immortality and when your hands
touched my face time itself kissed my soul. And our souls fell, as angels
had wings, we had grace below us. We became no man, no love would escape
our sun and where once an arcane cage gripped me, my soul, now I could
swim free in the oceans of time.

I too have embraced a new day as a new life only to find that complacency
can lead to life creeping behind and closing my eyes to a world that

wished to embrace me and kiss my very soul.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Arcane Sun's We Stood With Time seem to be an ode to the power of love, of time, and of the immortal soul. The first stanza describes a love so powerful that it attracts even love itself to it - "And love itself sought our nectar". The union of the two lovers is so profound that time itself stood still. The lyrics go on to describe the purity and grace of their love - "we had grace below us". The lovers are elevated to a plane of existence beyond any mortal constraints - "We became no man, no love would escape our sun" - and their souls are described as falling, like angels with wings.

The second stanza presents a more cautionary tone, warning against complacency and the dangers of becoming too comfortable in one's own life. It speaks to the idea that sometimes we can become so absorbed in our own world and routines that we forget to look beyond, to experience new things and to be open to change. "I too have embraced a new day as a new life only to find that complacency can lead to life creeping behind and closing my eyes to a world that wished to embrace me and kiss my very soul".

Overall, the lyrics seem to convey a message of the transcendental power of love and the immortality of the soul, but also the importance of being open to new experiences and perspectives in order to continue growing and evolving as a person.

@vavonia666 @vavonia666 You certainly did a fantastic job vocal wise on this album. It's one of the few Irish metal albums I never tire of. For me it's up there with the best albums by Emperor, Immortal, Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir, Gehenna, Amorphis, Moonspell etc.

Man, I had three copies of this and each one was stolen by some glipe. I LOVE this album so much, it was the first CD I got when I returned to Ireland in 2000. What a homecoming! Thank you lads and thank you whoever posted this.

WONDERFUL BAND! I wish everyone'd know and appreciate this!

Thanks for commenting. As I said before I just wish more people knew about this excellent band and album. I almost feel like I'm the only one in Ireland who knows and loves this album!

Absolutely brilliant album, one that stands the test of time - for me anyway. This is an album I intend on playing for my sons to teach them what music is, or should be. I'm delighted to say that I saw them live. Met the singer Paul outside a pub once and asked him about 'Fade', the second album. He wasn't enthusiastic about it but that was shortly after the band broke up and he was probably bitter. I stayed away from Fade anyway, just in case it sullied my appreciation of this album.

I live in the US, Florida to be exact. I wish i had found these guys sooner! Truly beautiful compositions.

Funny seeing this after all these years. I was the singer in Arcane Sun. Long time ago now. Thanks for posting this, I'm not really one to swell on these things so I probably wouldn't have done it myself. For the record, it wasn't exactly the label that caused the whole thing to fall apart, it didn't help that Ars Metalli was not the best label in the world, despite the best of intentions. Fergal, the guitarist/songwriter lost interest and he was the creative core of the band. Still...:-)

At least one copy of this album resides in Sweden. I bought this many years ago, in a now closed record shop, having heard it was an exellent piece. It was. Beautiful. :) But as the original poster said, there isn´t many folks who knows about the band. Stay groovy kids!

@vavonia666 Jesus, bit surreal stumbling on this! I don't even have a copy anymore! Hats off to whoever took the time to put this up here after all these years. Its a bit like discovering an old photo of a place I'd forgotten I'd even been to. (Fergal, the former guitarist)
