In 2013, Architects parted with Century Media, self-releasing the documentary One Hundred Days: The Story of Architects Almost World Tour and joining Epitaph Records. They released their sixth album Lost Forever // Lost Together through the label in 2014, achieving widespread critical acclaim which has lasted since. Soon after the release of their follow-up All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us in 2016, principal guitarist and songwriter Tom Searle died after three years of living with skin cancer. In September 2017, the band released the single "Doomsday"—the last song that he was working on before his death—and announced Josh Middleton of Sylosis as their new lead guitarist. The single is included on their new album Holy Hell, which was released in November 2018 and is their first written without Searle.
All members of the band are vegan, having turned to veganism after watching several documentaries on the subject. They also promote the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, with Carter being one of its British ambassadors.

They can hear us but we will never see them
Do you feel safe?
Do you even understand me?
Do you even understand me?
We make no difference when numbers count for nothing
When your path has already been walked
When your hourglass is fooling you
What can you rely on?
Time is our only friend, now
If my life was to end today, It wouldn't change the world in any way
This sudden realisation is tearing me apart
This life is so perfect
What can be said of the end?
What will happen when our time comes
Who will stand the final test of time?
This life is so perfect
What can be said of the end
Will we be resurrected?
Who will stand the final test?
The lyrics of Architects’ song “Numbers Count For Nothing” delve into themes of mortality, existence, and the futility of existence in a larger, collective sense. The opening lines reflect a sense of hopelessness in our search for answers to the big questions in life – the lyrics suggest that we may hear answers but never truly see them or fully understand them. This is followed by a series of sobering questions about safety, understanding, and the lack of impact we have when numbers and choices control our lives.
The chorus is particularly poignant, highlighting the idea that we ultimately make no difference in life when factors outside of our control dictate our successes and our failures. The lines “When your path has already been walked/ When your hourglass is fooling you” suggest that our fate is already predetermined, which poses the question: what can we truly rely on? The only constant we have is time, and the final lines hit hard with the realization that our time on earth is limited, and our deaths will ultimately be insignificant.
Overall, the lyrics of “Numbers Count For Nothing” encourage introspection and reflection on our place in the world, as well as the concept of fate and free will and how they interact in our lives.
