Youth Is Wasted On The Young
Architects Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The past is dead.
I walk the funeral march and I will make my peace.
The past is dead.
I walk the funeral march and I will make my peace.

If we stop the clock, will I reappear?
Pulled from the drift, there goes another year.
The stars align, the planets shift.
All the infinite moments that we've missed.

There's parts of me that are lost forever.
At least we're all lost together.
We all remember youth like it's dead and gone.
Like our favorite line from a forgotten song.

I'll show you my hurt and I'll show you my heart.
A life lost in the dark.

The past is dead.
I walk the funeral march and I will make my peace.
The past is dead.
I walk the funeral march and I will make my peace.

When I reach the end, will I beg for more?
Will I look back, or step through the door?
I stand beneath a monolith.
Do you ever feel like you won't be missed?

There's parts of me that are lost forever.
At least we're all lost together.
I heard that this was only a ride.
So there's no worth in waiting for death to arrive.

All we are, is just a name, it's all we are.
Our skin, it shows, these crippled bones.
Youth sinks alone.

All we are, is just a name, it's who we are.
Our skin, it shows, these crippled bones.
Youth sinks alone.

I'll show you my hurt and I'll show you my heart.
A life lost in the dark.

There's parts of me that are lost forever.
At least we're all lost together.

There's parts of me that are lost forever.

Overall Meaning

Architects's song "Youth Is Wasted On The Young" speaks to the idea of aging and the acceptance of the past as something that cannot be changed. The repetition of the line "The past is dead" emphasizes the importance of moving forward and making peace with the events that have taken place. The funeral march symbolizes the final goodbye to the past and accepting the loss of time. The line "All the infinite moments that we've missed" highlights the inevitability of missing out on certain experiences in life and accepting these losses.

The song also touches on the idea of mortality and the unknown future. The line "When I reach the end, will I beg for more?" shows the uncertainty and fear that come with the end of life. The monolith represents the end of life, and the fear of being forgotten after we are gone. The lyrics suggest that we should not wait for death to arrive, but instead, live life and make the most of the time we have.

The chorus, "There's parts of me that are lost forever, at least we're all lost together," represents a shared human experience of loss and the struggle to accept it. The final lines "Youth sinks alone" emphasize how youth, which is often associated with invincibility and endless freedom, can still feel fleeting and lonely.

I've had this song in my head for ages and i'm not bored of it. You can never get bored of Architects

This is so true. They really strike a perfect balance between complexity and melodity. Especially since lost forever // lost together.: I listen to them often on commute, yet can still lean back with a good pair of headphones and dig into the same songs.

This couldn't be more true

That awesome moment when the vocalist says the album name in one of their songs.

They did this in all their all abums?
Though there's never a song titled like the album, which is very neat I think.
