Now I Can Dance
Arena Tina Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So I hope this finds you well
Sun is shining down eastern valley ways
There's some news I need to tell you
Give my Mother a kiss

Tell her I'm ok
I recall her words
"If it's too easy
It never lasts

I have compromised
But I'm finally free of the past
Now I can dance
Clouds have all disappeared

Freedom
I hold so dear
'Cause nobody knows me here
Though I can only imagine the sadness

In your eyes
Please understand
Now I can dance
All alone the other night

I came to realise we'd be friends for life
It was always meant to be
For some people the heavens can get it so right
Like an angel you see

You have graciously offered a hand
You'd be so proud of me
Now I'm finally taking a stand
Now I can dance

Clouds have all disappeared
Freedom
I hope so dear
Cause nobody knows me here

Though I can only imagine the sadness
In your eyes
Please understand
Now I can dance

Now I can dance
Now I can dance
Clouds have all disappeared
Freedom

I hope so dear
'Cause nobody knows me here
Though I can only imagine the sadness
In you eyes

Please understand
Now I can dance
Though I can only imagine the sadness
In your eyes

Please understand
Now I can dance
So I hope this finds you well
Sun is shining down eastern valley ways

So good
Be free
Can dance and laugh and just be me
So good

Be free
The clouds above have disappeared

Overall Meaning

In "Now I Can Dance," Arena Tina seems to be addressing someone whom she cares about, but with whom she has lost touch. She begins by offering a greeting and talking about the sunny day outside. Then she says there's news she needs to share, which turns out to be a request to pass along a greeting to her mother. This quickly turns into a more general message that she's okay, which she recalls her mother telling her would never last if things were too easy. This suggests that Arena Tina has had a difficult past but has now moved past it, achieving a sense of freedom she's never had before. The title of the song suggests that this newfound freedom allows her to dance, metaphorically, through life. She imagines sadness in the eyes of the person she's talking to, but assures them that she now feels free and able to stand on her own two feet.

The song seems to be about someone who has come into their own after a period of difficulty. They are breaking free of past troubles and moving forward into a new stage of their life, one where they can be more fully themselves. The title, "Now I Can Dance," captures the joy that comes from this newfound freedom. The song is also about relationships: the person Arena Tina is speaking to seems to be someone who has been in her life for a long time, and she wants them to know that she's moving forward without them, but still cares for them deeply.

This could've been a massive hit in the UK 🇬🇧, the UK has no idea some of the Australian music that some of the Australian stars didn't release in the UK have missed out on.

I used to live down on Eastern Valley Way in Sydney, the first time I heard this song was when I was driving down it with a lovely sunset painting the sky a reddish pink. It was sublime...

I grew up with this song. One of my mother's all time favourites; she's still alive today but everytime I hear it and I'm away from her I cry. Thakn you Tina!

It's 2021 and I'm still listening to this.

I can never understand why Tina was never as big as Celine Dion or Adele and others of her ilk. She is undoubtably a terrific singer. I love this song and of course Sorrento Moon.
