Wasn't it Good
Arena Tina Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wouldn't you know it I've lost my courage
Isn't that funny me lost for words
Not that it really matters 'cause I know you know
And you would have told me yourself if you could

Remember the first time we met each other
You were in your world and I was in mine
Breaking down the barriers we broke all the rules
But wasn't it good wasn't it fine

While I took for granted, you took your time
Longing for love oh how we tried
It's over now that's understood, but wasn't it good

So long together, two would be lovers
Caring for flowers that just wouldn't grow
And in all of our tomorrows, we'll have yesterday
And wasn't it good, wasn't it fine

While I took for granted, you took your time
Longing for love, oh how we tried
It's over now that's understood

But wasn't it good

Overall Meaning

The song "Wasn't it Good" by Tina Arena is a beautiful ballad about reminiscing the past relationship which was once flourishing and passionate but now has come to an end. The lyrics are full of emotions and nostalgia, as the singer looks back at the memories of the time spent together with her former lover.

The song starts with the singer admitting that she has lost her courage and words. She is finding it difficult to express herself. She realizes that it doesn't matter because her lover knows how she feels, and if he could, he would have told her himself. This suggests that the relationship ended because of communication issues.

The song then talks about how they met and how they fell in love, despite coming from different worlds. They broke down the barriers and rules to be with each other. The singer acknowledges that it was a beautiful phase of their relationship, and she asks the question "Wasn't it good? Wasn't it fine?". The answer is obvious - it was good and fine, and the memories still linger.

In the second verse, the singer expresses how they tried to make their love work, but it didn't. They cared for each other and tried to make things right, but it was not enough. Even though the relationship is over, they both understand that it was once magical and special. The song ends with the singer asking the question again, "Wasn't it good?", reminding us that even though the relationship has ended, the memories and the experiences they shared will always be cherished.

Firstly, THAT sick drop at 3:07 got my head bopping to a breakup ballad 😂

On a more serious note, it’s a beautifully arranged and written 90s ballad that really speaks to those that are mending a broken heart due to a relationship ending. No matter how amicable the breakup was, the heart still bleeds a little and this song is so relatable in that way yet somehow uplifting. One of my all time favourite songs.

"ending all of our tomorrows
We'll have yesterdays"
Gets me everytime 😢

She is so under-rated as a songwriter. This should surely rank in the all time top 10 of ballads. Say 'yeah' below if you agree.

One of the purest voices to ever come out of Australia, no wonder France tried to claim her as their own,
she's super down to earth & so awesome.

@yolhanson

I wonder if there is a perfect voice out there, somewhere. Tina ranks with Whitney, in my estimation, as the nearest to perfection you could get.
