As well as Rod Argent, the other original members (most come from Hertfordshire, England) were drummer Robert Henrit and bassist Jim Rodford (later members of the Kinks) and guitarist/keyboardist Russ Ballard, who contributed to several compositions through the group's career (curiously some of Ballard's compositions became hits when they were covered by other bands, like Rainbow or Santana). When Russ Ballard left in 1973, his place was taken by guitarist and vocalist John Verity and guitarist John Grimaldi and there followed a period of intense recording and touring until the band decided to come off the road late in 1976.
The original Argent lineup re-united at the High Voltage Festival in Victoria Park, London, on July 25, 2010. They undertook a short five date concert tour in December 2010, with gigs in Frome, Southampton, Wolverhampton, Leamington Spa and London.

An invitation
To come and join in
A ring of hands together
Down the mountains
Around the fountains
All come singing
A ring of hands forever
Tonight I feel excitement
Coming in the air
Like a dog tryin' to
Bark on the wind
Bright light burnin' torches
Dacning everywhere
Take my eyes
Pull my heart
As they sing
Celebration
An invitation
To come and join in
A ring of hands together
Ring of hands
Ring of hands
Ring of hands together forever
And if I dance beside you
Steppin' at your feet
Take adventage of joy in my eyes
We can reach the rooftops
Spinning like a wheel
In this afternight we can ride
Celebration
An invitation
To come and join in
A ring of hands together
Ring of hands
Ring of hands
Ring of hands together
Argent's song "Celebration" is an upbeat invitation to join in a communal experience of singing, dancing, and celebration. The lyrics describe a ring of hands coming together, moving through mountains and fountains, all while singing along with the excitement and energy of the moment. The chorus repeats the idea of a ring of hands together forever, emphasizing the connection and community created through the celebration.
The verses of the song describe the singer's personal experience of the celebration. They feel the excitement coming in the air like a dog trying to bark on the wind. The bright lights of burning torches and dancing everywhere take the singer's eyes and pull their heart. The phrase "take advantage of joy in my eyes" suggests a willingness to share and connect with others in the celebration, encouraging listeners to join in as well. The song culminates in the final chorus, repeating the idea of a ring of hands together, emphasizing the fundamental sense of community created in the celebration.
Argent's "Celebration" was released in 1972 and became a popular hit, reaching #38 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has since appeared in various movies and TV shows, including the film Super 8, the TV series Freaks and Geeks, and an episode of The Simpsons.

An invitation
We're inviting you to join us
To come and join in
Join us in our festivities
A ring of hands together
We stand together and hold hands
Down the mountains
We've come from all directions
Around the fountains
We've all gathered in this public space
All come singing
We're all singing together
A ring of hands forever
We will always stand together
Tonight I feel excitement
I'm feeling excited right now
Coming in the air
It's all around us
Like a dog tryin' to
I feel the urge to do something
Bark on the wind
Like a dog howling at the moon
Bright light burnin' torches
We're holding up lit torches
Dacning everywhere
Everyone is dancing
Take my eyes
My attention is drawn
Pull my heart
My emotions are stirred
As they sing
To the sound of their music
Ring of hands
We continue to hold hands
Ring of hands together forever
We're standing together forever
And if I dance beside you
If I dance next to you
Steppin' at your feet
Moving in time with your steps
Take adventage of joy in my eyes
Let's both enjoy this moment
We can reach the rooftops
We can achieve great heights.
Spinning like a wheel
We're spinning around in circles
In this afternight we can ride
We can enjoy the night together

Argent was a serious band. A super group of when albums ruled the planet: A time when musicians knew what they were doing, could bring the house down. All long before i came into the world. It really amazes me how many superb bands were around on the map back then compared to what half talent there is today. I mean, you could take only one member of almost any band from the 1960's/70's and they could easily teach you what it was about. Jim rodford of this band seriously rocked his bass guitar. Most were in bands way before the band they were already in. Sadly alot were short lived because many pro musicians wanted to move on. Can't get enough of this music, it is my drug:

Agent was great, weren't they ? I bought a box set of their first 5 albums, and was seriously hooked after that. Also got their BBC session CD & the live CD , Encore. All of it, great !!

When melody and beauty were still seeping into rock and modern pop music - 60s 70s maybe a while longer. It made all the difference (to me anyway). Think of Philly Soul, Countrypolitan. It came in a lot of forms. For me I was young but the world felt like this music, beautiful optimistic powerful. You are an enlightened young man or woman glad you like this stuff.

It's amazing how much the vocals sound like Freddie Mercury on this track... what a great band Argent were!

Correct... A sort of proto Mercury sound

This was released 2 years before Queen's first album; Though you should say that Freddie Mercury sounds like Russ Ballard
