1 Finnish melodic metal band Arion formed in 2011.
Finland's newest melodic metal sensation Arion came out from the woodwork and dropped on the scene like a bomb. Comprised of a trio of 17 and 18 year old music students from Sibelius Lukio and their equally accomplished muso friends, Arion wrote their debut song “Lost” - a versatile piece of symphonic melodic metal - in the summer of 2012, entered it to the Eurovision song contest's Finnish qualification and found themselves in the nationally televised qualification rounds. Perplexed in the midst of the TV hoopla and everything therein, still trying to get to know each other as a band mates, Arion were already getting the first taste of celebrity treatment. After 3 televised performances, Arion's song sensationally wound up 5th among 540 songs and got nationwide applause and airplay.
Viljami Holopainen - vocals
Iivo Kaipainen - guitars
Arttu Vauhkonen - keyboards
Gege Velinov - bass
Topias Kupiainen - drums

Last time I reviewed an Arion song, I was a little bit angry that he had switched from electro to dubstep without ever looking back. However, now that we actually get some adequate dubstep from Arion, I can confidently say that I was wrong to be so angry. This one is actually pretty good. Let’s jump in.
The song begins by focusing on the piano as well as a few glitch beats that cause some distortion. During my first listen, I really didn’t like the beat interrupting the piano at this point. I’ve come to terms with them being there, but I still feel that it would be better if the drums didn’t appear until about 50 seconds in. Otherwise, this first build up is actually pretty good. I kind of enjoy the way Arion transitions from the piano to the rest of the build-up.
I don’t have too much to say about the first drop, it’s interesting and keeps the relaxing tone alive for a while. I really enjoy the violins here. I also enjoy how this drop seamlessly transitions into the next build up. However, the drop that the next build up leads to is probably my least favorite part of the song.
It’s not that the drop itself is bad. It’s got some nice bass and isn’t completely jarring. But up to this point we had great relaxing track. I could kind of feel it and would have been willing to put it on my chill mix list, but sadly this drop just ruins the mood. I guess if you think of it as one long build up to this point, it’s a little bit better, but I saw the drop at 1:00 to be a real drop that kept the relaxing mood a live, only for this later drop to kill it.
Perhaps, I’m being too harsh. I don’t really like this song. It’s better than the Bassex, but I’m still not a fan of the song.
