Fearful Eyes
Arkangel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
fearful eyes stare the killing machine.
Imprisoned behind the white walls,
faces of misery incarnated in the flesh of non human animals.
Fearful eyes stare the killing machine.
Fearful eyes window of a tormented soul.
Blood flows from eviscerated bodies to fulfill the need of heartless consumption.
We torture and we enslave for the profit of the master species.
Watch the rise of the new Pandemonium ascending from the depths of inhumanity.
We bare the crown of crime
The lyrics to Arkangel's song "Fearful Eyes" tackle the theme of animal cruelty and how we as humans are willing to commit abominations for our own consumption. The first line highlights the hypocrisy of people who are aware of the suffering of animals but still participate in their torment. The phrase "fearful eyes" is used throughout the song to describe the gaze of animals on the receiving end of our cruelty. The term anthropocentrism is used to refer to the idea that humans are the most important species and all other beings are inferior and exist solely to serve us. The song implies that this belief is what drives us to treat non-human animals as commodities for our consumption.
The lyrics also suggest that we as humans are complicit in the systemic torture and enslavement of animals. The phrase "blood flows from eviscerated bodies" is a graphic description of the violence done to animals in the process of serving human needs. The last few lines of the song highlight the dark reality of our actions, in which we "bare the crown of crime." Ultimately, the song is a commentary on the way we treat animals and raises questions about the morality and ethics of our species.
