Breaking Down
Armchair Martian Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Are you alright my dear
Are you alright for me
Right now I'm trying patiently
Right now I'm trying patiently

Are we breaking, are we breaking
Down are we breaking down this time
Well I'll call you up every day
I call you all that I can

Understanding everything that I could ever hate
For now I understand, understand
Are we breaking, are we breaking
Chasing down and almost breaking

Are we breaking, are we breaking
Down are we breaking down this time
Are you alright my dear, are you
Are you even in my nightmare
Are you, are you afraid of me

Right now, right now we shouldn't be
Hey well you shouldn't be
Almost there, I'm almost scared
I am the hating kind

Are we breaking, are we breaking
Chasing down and almost breaking

Are we breaking, are we breaking
Down are we breaking down this time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Armchair Martian's song "Breaking Down" are emotional and indicate a sense of struggle in the relationship between the singer and the other person they are addressing. The singer is constantly asking the other person if they are alright and trying to be patient with them. However, there is a sense of tension, as they ask if they are breaking down, and if they are afraid of them. The singer also admits to understanding everything they could ever hate, which could suggest that there are issues within themselves that they are struggling with.

The repetition of "are we breaking" reinforces the idea of the fragility of the relationship and the possibility of it falling apart. The lines "chasing down and almost breaking" indicate that they are putting effort into trying to salvage the relationship, but it may not be enough. The use of first-person point of view ("I call you up every day," "I am the hating kind") brings the singer's perspective and emotions to the forefront, making it a deeply personal song.

Overall, the lyrics to "Breaking Down" suggest a relationship that is struggling and possibly headed towards its end. The singer is trying to do what they can to hold it together, but there are underlying issues that may be too difficult to overcome.
