Strangers
Armies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When it comes down, we know we're alone
you could scream and nobody would hear
Today my face in the glass is a stranger's
furrowed with the lines of fear
All the little truths denied, all the little deaths we died
I always thought that it was worth something
All the little rays of hope, always coming back when we needed them most
I always thought that it was worth something

Once we went back to the house we were born in
The glass was smashed and there were boards on the doors
and it seemed so right that the past was all laid to waste
and our trail covered up and lost
All the little deaths we died, all the little truths denied,
I always thought that it was worth something
And all the battles leave their scars
and the gods of Fate still laughing at us
I always thought that it was worth what it cost

Let everyone else decide who's right - I don't care any more tonight
I only know that it is worth something

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Army's song "Strangers" convey the feeling of being alone and the challenges of maintaining connections with others. The first stanza aims to highlight the sense of isolation we all feel at times, when we realize that screaming out for help would not change anything. The second stanza acknowledges the inevitability of change, how we all grow older and our faces bear the marks of life experiences that shape us into strangers. The lines "All the little truths denied, all the little deaths we died" touch on the idea that we often choose to ignore or repress certain aspects of ourselves or events in our lives that we find difficult to accept. At the same time, the song recognizes the beauty of hope and resilience that keeps us going, even during the darkest moments.

The third stanza brings up the concept of nostalgia and returning to a place from our pasts, only to find it changed and unrecognizable. The imagery of the shattered glass and boarded-up doors reinforces the idea that we cannot go back to who we were before. Yet, the song still suggests that even though we may end up fighting unwinnable battles and carrying scars, there is still worth in our experiences and sense of self. Ultimately, the message of "Strangers" is a testament to the human spirit's power to endure and move forward despite life's challenges.

Nice to see ppl come together during these strenuous political times. Gives hope that ppl can put politics aside and appreciate the sacrifice Veterans makes regardless if you agree w/ the wars they’ve fought it or not. Will say I believe it’s one side more than the other that appreciates the sacrifices ppl make and don’t take the safety we enjoy for granted bc of it. Still a great thing to see. Go w/ God sir
