Let The Sunshine In

Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes
Somewhere, inside something , there is a rush of greatness
Who knows what stands in front of our lives
Silence tells me secretly ev'rything, ev'rything
Singing my space songs on a spiderweb star
"Life is around you and in you"
Answer for Timothy Leary, deary
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
The lyrics of Army of Lovers' "Let The Sunshine In" depict a society that is at the brink of collapse. People are starving, struggling to breathe, and wearing lab-made scents, while living in winter coats that symbolize confinement and oppression. The reference to the "dying nation of moving paper fantasy" suggests that the society is heavily reliant on bureaucratic paperwork and propaganda, which leave no room for real human connections or experiences.
The chorus of the song, where the band implores the audience to "let the sunshine in," represents a call to break free from this oppressive society and embrace positivity and hope. The reference to Timothy Leary, a prominent counterculture figure of the 1960s, suggests that the song is also a nod to the era of social change and revolution.
The line "I fashion my future on films in space" is significant because it highlights the escapist tendencies people have when faced with bleak circumstances. Rather than confront reality, people often turn to fantastical stories that offer hope and inspiration. Silence is also noted to speak secretly to the singer, signifying a possible lack of genuine human interaction.
Overall, "Let The Sunshine In" is a song that simultaneously reflects on the crushing pressure of a society on the brink of collapse while urging listeners to embrace optimism and strive for change.
