"Joy to the World" is a traditional Christmas hymn that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. The lyrics encourage people to prepare their hearts for the coming of the Lord, who will rule with truth and grace, and spread love and wonder throughout the world. The song opens with the joyful proclamation that the Lord has come, and invites the earth to receive its King. The second line encourages people to make room in their hearts for Him, by preparing themselves for His arrival.
The third line encourages the entire creation to join in the celebration - from the heavens to the earth, all are called upon to sing in joy. The second verse speaks of the Savior's reign, and calls upon men to sing His praises. The world itself joins in, with the fields, hills, and plains repeating the "sounding joy".
Finally, the third verse speaks of the Lord's everlasting rule over the world, and proclaims the glories of His righteousness and the wonders of His love. It calls upon nations to acknowledge His power and grace, and to spread the message of His love throughout the world.
