Art. Garfunkel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

O come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come he, o come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him (o come)
O come, let us adore Him (o come)
O come, let us adore Him (o come)

O come, let us adore Him (o come)
Christ the Lord

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of "O Come All Ye Faithful" calls on all faithful people to come to Bethlehem to see the newborn King of Angels. It is a joyful and triumphant call to worship the Christ. The second stanza repeats the call to worship and adds a reiteration of the newborn King of Angels to emphasize the significance of His birth. This repetition furthers the theme that this is a momentous occasion, where all people should come together to worship the Christ. The final stanza concludes the song with a final call to adore Christ and a final reference to His Lordship.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of excitement and urgency. The use of repetition in the chorus emphasizes the importance of the event and calls people to join together in worship. The line "born the King of Angels" references the concept of the incarnation, where Jesus, as God, took on human form to enter the world. This is a central tenet of the Christian faith, and the song highlights its importance.

Overall, "O Come All Ye Faithful" is a hymn celebrating the birth of Christ and calling on all people to come together in worship. It highlights the importance of the incarnation and emphasizes the joyful and triumphant nature of the event.

Christmas is fast approaching, this version is just the best for me. Artie’s voice is so angelic. Wish he could have made a full album of christmas songs.

“In this nervous world I want to soothe. It’s a great time for moderation, for thoughtfulness, for dialogue, for the great Exhale, for humor. A great time for a sweet sound, a visceral, charming, prayerful sound.” ~ Art Garfunkel

I agree with C Johnson wishing Artie would make a whole album of classic Christmas music. This was such a treat and leaves me wanting more. What a treasure this man is. Purely sent from God. We are all lucky to have this song from him. Thank you Artie.

I remember hearing this on a car radio a long time ago but with piano accompaniment instead of guitar. Had to pull over to take it in. DJ announced that it was from an album called '' A Columbia Christmas''. I still look for it every year in the holiday music section of some remaining record stores.

The beautiful video evokes the famous solstice poem by Robert Frost (Stopping by ...) Winter will be followed by spring, but only in nature, never so in an individual human life. Let´s think about this, but not in grief.
