Your dad was quite an amazing composer and producer. Not only are the songs he wrote great, but the records he produced were sonic treasures and quite innovative for the time (out of the ordinary chord progressions, flanging (The Big Hurt), use of two separate bass parts (acoustic and electric bass parts on Primrose Lane) . And those songs did swing, thanks in no small part to the great jazz and studio musicians that were featured on his records. About Primrose Lane, my mom said, "It has a nice lilt." These tunes are some of my favorites from that era. We are about the same age.

@Steve Bonilla The Big Hurt was an accidental flanging flashing when the engineer use two tape decks, the second one copying the first and when played back the drive speeds weren't synchronized. It was a very nice "mistake" when the intention was to double up on Toni Fischer's voice. This was stated by Dick Clark in an interview.

I was introduced to this song by Sylvain Sylvain, my guitar partner in the New York Dolls from 2004-2010...he had lived in Paris as a child and loved all things French. He just passed away a few days ago at the age of 69 from cancer and I am revisiting all the memories I have of him...this one really hit hard.

You know its funny, well to me anyway, how a young child can hear a song and remember it throughout their lives, I was only 6 when it came out and I dont know if it was the sax or the "rat-ta-dat-ta-dat" that had me..but I loved it...and after 64 years later, still do..🎙🎶💖 🎷 ❤

I loved this song when I first heard it during the summer of 1958. Just got out of the Air Force and was at the beach with my girlfriend Francis. I can still recall that time when I hear it. I'm now 84.

This song was big in May 1958. I remember because I flew to Washington DC for a few days with Mom and Dad that month. It was a glorious trip seeing the spring at its peak in DC.This song was playing on radios the whole time we were there.

I know how you feel those were the days my family was healthy and alive would give anything to go back as a line from a song said I would give all my tomorrows for a single yesterday. Our love ones are very happy in heaven my father let me know this in a vision. I was still angry that he suffered so from cancer but he smiled and shook his head like whatever happens in this life doesn't matter as long as you make it to the wonderful heaven of the next life. I was a 7 year old black girl in Detroit in1958 and i loved to watch the teenagers dance on American bandstand and I remember seeing this song performed . You and I will be United with our families .

Speak up if the horror movie I, MADMAN (1989) starring Clayton Rohner and Jenny Wright led you here. That song was heard in the movie and over the closing credits. Not only did Randal William Cook accomplish the stop-motion animation of the jackal man, he also starred as the murderous fiend Alan Kessler. They sure made better horror flicks back then. And by the by, I like this song. Honest I do.

Wolfsky9 I read where Art & Dotty eventually moved to Hawaii, & remained there until Dotty's sad passing. She developed severe dementia, but Art stayed with her & took care of her to the end. Love this song --just so sad to know the years are gone, & they won't return--ever. Wolfsky9
