Petite Demoiselle
Art Sullivan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hello, hello, petite demoiselle,
Hello, hello, petite demoiselle,

Hello, hello, petite demoiselle,

Hello, hello, petite demoiselle,

Hello, hello, petite demoiselle,
Hello, hello, c'est une idée rebelle...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Art Sullivan's song Petite Demoiselle tell the story of a man's longing for a woman he sees every Sunday. He watches her descent her staircase every week, and he is alone, abandoned, and desperate to speak to her. He longs to communicate with her, to talk about the rain and the wind, and to tell her about the beauty of her childlike eyes. The man is hopeful and determined to one day confess his love to her, hoping she will not close her heart to him and bring him immense pain.

The repeated phrase "Hello, hello, petite demoiselle" is a plea to the woman to notice him and to give him a chance to express his feelings. He sees this as a rebellious idea, as it goes against the norm of not approaching strangers for love. The song ultimately portrays the depth of the man's love and how he is willing to wait for her to reciprocate his feelings for her.

J´adore Art Sullivan
