Die Trying
Art of Dying Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I think it's time for me to go now
I've done more harm than good
If I could change how this turned out, yeah
You know that I would
Sometimes the weight is more than I can hold
But I rather fail than not know

If it takes forever
I will die trying
If it takes forever
I will die trying
I will die trying

I wish I knew then what I know now
But I'd probably do the same
I get the feeling that it's planned out
From the cradle to the grave
Sometimes the weight is more than I can hold
But I rather fail than never really know

If it takes forever
I will die trying
If it takes forever
I will die trying
I will die trying

And I am digging a hole
I am taking it all
I am digging a hole
To bury my soul
I am digging

If it takes forever
I will die trying

If it takes forever
I will die trying
If it takes forever
I will die trying

If it takes forever
I will die trying
If it takes forever
I will die trying

If it takes forever (forever)
I will die trying
If it takes forever (forever)
I will die trying

I will die trying
I will die trying

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Art of Dying's "Die Trying" are a powerful introspection on the consequences of our actions and the unwavering determination to follow through, even if it means failure or death. The first two lines set the mood of the song and introduce the subject, someone who has come to the realization that they have done more damage than good and must take responsibility for their actions. The singer wishes they could go back in time and make things right, however, they cannot and must bear the consequences.

Throughout the song, the singer struggles to carry the weight of their mistakes, but instead of giving up or giving in, they choose to endure, regardless of how long it takes or what the outcome may be. Moreover, the chorus is an expression of the singer's dedication, their willingness to die trying to make amends or reach their goals, even if it takes forever.

In the final verse, the singer admits that they are digging a hole to bury their soul, but the repetition of the phrase "I will die trying" shows that they refuse to surrender to their flaws or the hardships they face. The phrase could be interpreted as a symbol for the singer's desire to bury their past wrongs and start anew, or alternatively as a statement of intent to keep going, no matter how difficult or painful it may be.

Overall, "Die Trying" is a song about acceptance, transformation, and resilience in the face of adversity, and it reminds us that our actions, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, can have dire consequences that we must be willing to face and make right.

Its sad to see how those, who'd be selling millions of records in beginning of 2000s are now on the backseats, trying hard to find gigs and places to perform.

Probably the most underrated rock band in the history of music.

Better for one to die trying than for one to try dying. Suicide is the coward's escape. He who sacrifices himself for power admits that he is too weak to remain human. The path of life is a path of suffering. But it is also the Warrior's way, for along the road he gains strength and support from those he holds dear. This song just says so much...it's unreal.
