water
Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Water flow
River restless wave
Floating with the morning
Through the sky

You can see the dawning
All around your head
Let the water roll
Let the water roll

Where the rainbow dresses you
In coats of no detail
See the end of yesterday and follow Earth's early smile
Where birds breeze time in one pure note
Shatters facing flight
See them dark holes in the sky
Letting in the night

River!

Let the water roll
Let the water roll

Surely you can see the water flowing cross the ploughed field
Catches snatches of tomorrow that they drift beyond you to afar

Let the water roll
Let the water roll

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come's song Water convey the beauty and unpredictability of nature. The opening lines speak of a river flowing restlessly and a wave that travels through the sky, creating an image of constant motion and change. As the song progresses, the lyrics paint a vivid picture of the natural world all around us, with details such as rainbows, birdsong, and the darkness of the night sky. The lyrics also suggest that nature has the ability to transport us to a different time and place - a world beyond our present troubles and concerns.

The repeated refrain of "let the water roll" seems to suggest that we should allow ourselves to be swept away by the beauty and power of nature - to lose ourselves in the moment and experience the world around us fully. The overall effect of the lyrics is calming and meditative, inviting listeners to take a step back from the chaos of everyday life and find peace and wonder in the natural world.

Hi. Thanks for posting this! Even though it’s obviously very much a jam, it really brings back memories of seeing Kingdom Come in the seventies; chaos followed by brilliance followed by chaos, with always the threat of disaster. A bit like life really!
