Call Me
Arthur Yoria Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
i just woke up but no one knows
i'll stay in bed
i'll go in late
i'll take the chance or make other plans
i'll pay the rent and ditch the phone
i won't be home
i'm still the same
i will not change
i'll never be more than you see
but if you need something,
please call me
the mail is in and the lights are out
i'm in the dark but i see your doubt
the stove is on 'cause the heater's not
there's water in here but the plants are gone
i'll pay the rest but fuck the phone
i won't be home
i'm still the same
i will not change
i'll never be more than you see
but if you need something,
please call me
The song "Call Me" by Arthur Yoria tells the story of someone who is feeling isolated and disconnected from the world around them. The opening lines "I'm in my clothes and I'm all alone, I just woke up but no one knows" set the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer struggles with the feeling of being unheard and unnoticed. The repeated refrain of "I'm still the same, I will not change, I'll never be more than you see" suggests a resignation to their current state, a belief that they will never be able to break free from their isolation.
The second verse reveals some of the reasons why the singer may be feeling this way - the mail is in and the lights are out, the plants are gone, and the stove is on because the heater's not working. These details paint a picture of a home that is neglected, perhaps reflecting the mental and emotional state of the person inhabiting it. Despite all of this, the singer still offers themselves up to those around them as a source of help and support - "but if you need something, please call me."
Overall, the song explores themes of loneliness and disconnection, as well as the resilience and generosity of the human spirit in the face of these challenges.
