Walls
Article One Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So maybe what I thought were good intentions, were nothing of the kind at all, I was better off before
And doubting that I put aside convention, and bring you flowers like the last time, will it count for something more

When it feels like...
Walls, are between us
Walls, are keeping us apart
I'll find my way, and I'm gonna stay, in a place where I can see you over these walls
Assuming I'm not one who likes to gamble, when the game is played for keeps, umm, and your heart is on the table
I promise that I'll never give up easy, but the past speaks so much softer than the present ever could

So looking back I guess I see,
Who you really are and what you mean to me

True love, is heard to find,

I'll say sorry, give me time
I'll say sorry, give me time

Overall Meaning

In the song "Walls" by Article One, the lyrics revolve around a relationship that has hit a rough patch. The singer, presumably the one who caused the rift, reflects on his past actions and realizes that his good intentions might have been misconstrued. He feels regretful and wishes to make things right with his significant other. The repeated use of "walls" in the chorus serves as a metaphor for the barriers that are keeping them apart. However, the singer is determined to find a way to overcome these walls and reconnect with his loved one.

The first stanza talks about the singer's doubts about his good intentions. He wonders if his actions were not well-intentioned and caused the distance between them. He also acknowledges that he was better off before, indicating that he still remembers the good times they shared. The line "And doubting that I put aside convention, and bring you flowers like the last time, will it count for something more" shows his desire to make amends and do something special for his partner.

The second stanza talks about the fear of losing the game of love and the promise of never giving up easily. However, the past seems to be influencing his present actions. He looks back and understands the significance of his partner and how he wants to be with them. The lines "True love is hard to find, I'll say sorry, give me time" indicate his willingness to take responsibility for his past and make amends for them.

Overall, the song explores the themes of love, regret, and the desire to reconnect with one's loved one. The repeated use of "walls" adds to the emotional impact of the song and creates a vivid image of the barriers keeping them apart.

Line by Line Meaning

So maybe what I thought were good intentions, were nothing of the kind at all, I was better off before
Perhaps the things I thought were well-intended were not like that at all, and my life was better before

And doubting that I put aside convention, and bring you flowers like the last time, will it count for something more
If I ignore social norms and offer you flowers again, will it have a more significant meaning?

When it feels like... Walls, are between us Walls, are keeping us apart I'll find my way, and I'm gonna stay, in a place where I can see you over these walls
When I feel like we are separated by walls, invisible barriers that are preventing us from being together, I will make my way and stay in a place where I can still see you on the other side of them.

Assuming I'm not one who likes to gamble, when the game is played for keeps, umm, and your heart is on the table I promise that I'll never give up easy, but the past speaks so much softer than the present ever could
Though I am not one to take risks when the stakes are high, and lives are involved, and when your heart is on the line, I pledge not to give up quickly. However, memories remain much less intense than the present reality.

So looking back I guess I see, Who you really are and what you mean to me
As I reflect on our shared experiences, I realize who you genuinely are and how important you are to me.

True love, is heard to find, I'll say sorry, give me time I'll say sorry, give me time
Genuine love can be challenging to find, but I will apologize and ask for more time to work things out.

Thanks for putting this info up. It was interesting to watch, and I've started to wonder about strategy which it seems like you folks have in spades :) I was thinking about putting down chalk dust to track their movements; I've also used a sprinkle of rolled oats to tell me if they've been a particular place. I live in a basement suite. We recently discovered that rats had chewed holes in all the window screens to get in :'( (I had the house envelope inspected 2 years ago after a single Norway rat chewed a hole in the bathroom screen and got trapped in the house after I closed the window, so there don't seem to be any other egresses to worry about). They were doing nightly food raids I think, or perhaps trying to have a safe spot away from predators / adult rats and we didn't notice the holes until they were habituated to coming in and out at will.

These new unwanted dinner guests are young juveniles; not terribly stealthy or cunning, noisy and fairly easy to catch. They seem to want back out desperately -- they've been chewing at the window and door from the inside. I did a stake-out, left the front door open to make sure new ones didn't come in, and two ran out the door that way. The third I surprised into hiding into a corner, so I safety-gloved up and tricked it in to running into a fabric bag, and then relocated.

My problem now is the Last Rat. It's much smarter, and it spends its leisure time in the ceiling. I removed all the accessible food and left multiple traps (a new wifi electric trap, and my trusty Havahart live trap, both baited with peanut butter). I prefer to live-trap the garden rats, but I'm out of patience with the house invaders. I've given them opportunities to leave so it's time for the snap traps too. It chews nightly, sounds like it's trying to chew its way out of the house -- deep wood chewing, but maybe that's just teeth exercise. It's so stealthy I'm not even convinced it comes down to the kitchen anymore.

Out of desperation I've played rat distress sounds with a speaker up against the wall where it's decided to chew at 3am. That seems to make it stop at least for a couple of hours. Talking to it also makes it stop and reconsider its ways.

I'm going to fresh-bait snap traps and put them in the ceiling. I'm only a tenant and I know if I bring in rodent control folks again in they'll probably just do the same. Other than that I can't think of much to do. The Last Rat is wild and it wants back outside, and I'm sleep-deprived and want the same thing. Suggestions are welcome! Or the phone number for a rat interpreter ;) Now for some coffee for my groggy self :P Thanks again for the great consumer-protection video!

Rodents are such a huge issue out in the woods where my house is. I have an old house with a fieldstone foundation and there's just no stopping them finding their way in. I've spent so many hours inspecting the house, sealing up holes and small openings, laying traps... I even hired a pest control company for 1 year. They just put poison bait all over the place, which was effective at killing, but did NOTHING to stop them coming in. I feel there is no one to turn to for help anymore, but I am struggling endlessly to get to the bottom of this issue. I hear them in all the walls, first floor ceiling, attic, pretty much everywhere. They were getting INTO the house at one point, but I set up a bunch of cameras with night vision and eventually found how they were sneaking through the split in the wall at the chimney. Shoved a bunch of steel wool in those cracks and they haven't made it into the house again since. But this is just such a struggle... there's never any end no matter how many I kill.

Watch Mink Man on YouTube. Maybe it's time to buy an American Mink or hire Mink Man to come clear them out.

Im from the UK Just came across your videos, I'm sat here 8.30am and can here them all in my house, there in the livingroom walls, kitchen walls, bedroom walls, and in the attic!! Our cat cought one last week 👏 we've had the cat for 4 months now, glad we got her.
The only mouse droppings Ive found are under my kitchen sink. I haven't seen any others I've blocked all holes around pipes under there.
I'll have to have words with my neighbours too. I can hear them chewing through everything everywhere!!

TAREK

unlike the US where many houses are detached, in the UK our properties are attached and it's a huge pain, you can do everything to block access holes but if the neighbours don't bother the rodents will carry on running between floorboards, attic spaces, etc.
