No Stranger To Worry
Artifex Pereo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That predict their own death like a score?
How could one depict such a prophecy from a world so scared?
To think, they picked the one of one million ways to disappear
That′s something else, that's something else
Somehow this thought was hanging above my head
For weeks, plus days when I wasn′t really me
I feared company
I hear sirens all night for miles
And I'm sure we can't die from nothing
I can′t be afraid of subtleties out of my control
It′s not saying goodbye that makes me toss and turn,
It's the thought that I won′t
There's only so much room in our graves,
Only so much that we can take with us
How deep is the plan to take me under after wronging another?
Swinging machines brush my heavy shoulders as they carve into mother
And now a thought is hanging above my head
I will never know
There′s an illness about
Bodies all give out
I'm not afraid to go, but I fear to leave on a bad note
Our souls are tortured, dreaming morbid dreams ′
'Til they turn on themselves
I got here okay for someone who was headed somewhere else
This must mean something
This all must mean something
I don't need it all mapped out
But I do wish that I knew where not to dwell
I can′t be afraid of subtleties out of my control
It′s not saying goodbye that makes me toss and turn,
It's the thought that I won′t
There's only so much room in our graves,
Only so much that we can take, take with us
The lyrics of Artifex Pereo's song "No Stranger To Worry" speak to the human experience of confronting mortality and the fear of the unknown. The song begins by referencing the myth of men who can predict their own deaths, questioning how such prophecies can arise from a world filled with fear. The lyrics suggest that these individuals have chosen a rare path to disappear, highlighting the strange nature of their predicament.
The singer reveals that they have been haunted by thoughts of their own eventual demise. They describe themselves as not feeling like their usual self and being infatuated with a dark, looming end. The mention of fearing company implies that this preoccupation with mortality has made the singer withdraw from social interactions. The recurring sound of sirens in the distance contributes to their unease, yet they maintain a belief that they cannot die from nothing.
The lyrics then delve into the concept of leaving a lasting impact before death, as the singer muses on the limitations of human existence. They reflect on the fear of leaving on a bad note and the torment of having morbid dreams. The mention of "swinging machines" carving into mother suggests a metaphorical connection between the act of wronging others and the consequences faced in turn.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on their current situation, expressing a sense of uncertainty. They acknowledge that they have arrived somewhere unexpected but feel that it must carry some significance. They express a desire for understanding and guidance, wishing they knew where not to dwell. The song concludes with a repetition of the idea that it is not the act of saying goodbye that disturbs them, but the possibility of not having the opportunity to do so. It serves as a reminder of the finite nature of life and the limited space we have in our graves.
Overall, "No Stranger To Worry" explores the existential themes of mortality, fear, and the desire for meaning and connection in the face of uncertainty.
