Would not be so sad if you think of all the actual evil they do for keeping the drugs roll, i.e. assault of innocent co-inhabitants, robbery and all other sorts of nasty things. They are sort of victims themselves, but it still is (or rather was, and I would have no regret of this wording being accurate) their own choice to be going the way they were going. They look so innocent portrayed in the film as mere drug users, but they would look far less innocent when they make you give up your purse and jewelry and decide to murder you so that you would not be able to testify against them.

Heroin that isnt cut with fintanyl is safer than methadone in my opinion. Methadone makes you nod out like no other opiate and you crash your car and die. Next time you drive by a methad9ne clinic just take a look at the cars in the parking lot.

Desomorphine (later referred to as krokodil) was actually once a safe medication (created by pharmaceutical companies) that was prescribed for a short while. The reason krokodil causes skin and tissue rotting is not the desomorphine itself but the left over bi products that haven’t been properly cooked out of the mixture during synthesis. Gasoline, lighter fluid, acetone, all these chemicals cause tissue breakdown and destruction.
The main reason desomorphine was discontinued was because there just wasn’t much use having another opiate drug when many already exist. Desomorphine was found to have slightly more powerful euphoric effects than morphine or diamorphine (heroin) which is why it was quickly discontinued

The reason Desomorphine vanished from the Russian market was because it was declared an illegal narcotic to stop its misuse … there are safer opiates … it does not have any advantage to heroin as it has an extremely short hit … why is it misused as Crocodile … because it is extremely easy to synthesise from Codeine … as it is made from absolute crap in dirty kitchen it is pretty unsafe … but cheaper than heroin and the flow of heroin from Afghanistan got pretty poor … addicts want the hit … need it far more frequently as it has s crappy short effect compared to heroin … the health side they do not care about … the nature of addiction …

When made in a non medical setting and without equipment to test its purity, there’s no way of truly knowing whether the solution is free of solvents and poisonous residue. Heroin and all other drugs need to be legalised for personal use because that is the only way to win the war on drugs. Allow doctors to prescribe whatever drugs people request and you end the black market, drug related robberies and violence decreases ten fold, addicts feel less inclined to continue using because the thrill of the chase is taken away and now they’re just using to avoid withdrawals, and the economy can actually benefit by taxing the drugs sold for non medical purposes.
Legalisation is the answer

I spent 6 months in a teen challenge facility in upstate New York. The place literally saved my life. However, I do understand how looking from the outside it could seem "cultish". They do extraordinary work all across the world and save countless people from addiction.

To all the people saying “why don’t they just smoke weed?”, these people take the strongest and most damaging drugs they can because they get high to forget the pain and suffering that engulfs their every waking second, not to get a little bit stoned every now and again. In your situation it may be easy to say “why would you ever take that, that’s disgusting” but put yourself in their shoes and would you do any different? I know I wouldn’t, and anyone who says they would or they would never turn to those hard drugs no matter the circumstances are lying. I agree. There's a teen challenge in Winnipeg (lots of drug problems there, mostly cocaine) and one of my friends' brothers was really helped by it. It's a bit like AA mixed with a youth group, plus a focus on accountability/life skills/routine for the live-in program. I'm not saying it always works (lots of them reoffend), but it's not a cult just because it's religious. And it does help some people turn their lives around.

I lived in Novokuznetsk for 2 years with my grandma and my mom back when I was a kid and I never realized that I was living in such a bad place, even when one time our neighbors that were renting a room in our apartment who were drug addicts that were constantly stealing our things(according to my mom) had a fight and someone ended up getting stabbed. I remember seeing the dried blood stains right in front of our neighbor's room door and at that time I thought nothing of it, my small kid brain just went "Ew gross sticky stuff" and my mom picked me up and carried me over them every time I had to walk by our neighbor's door. Now that I'm an adult I fully understand how messed up this whole thing was, because I distinctly remember that after the stabbing our neighbors just disappeared, no cops, nothing(I might be wrong since this was a long time ago). On top of that the stains stayed on the floor for like a week until we moved out. Novokuznetsk is really a bad city.

После Москвы вернуться на малую родину для меня кайф.
Да, в 80-е, 90-е и первую половину 00-х тут жрали собак во дворах, пили до потери сознания и кололись. Зарплаты не платили, работы не было. Такова судьба заброшенных индустриальных центров вроде Детройта или Бильбао, и в странах с высоким уровнем жизни такое происходило и имело схожие черты. Время идет и Детройт превращается в хороший город, и наш родной край тоже преображается, если бы ты был знаком с реальным регионом не по видео на ютубе, то знал и видел бы, что за последние 10-5 лет всё кардинально поменялось.
Я не к тому, что у нас нет проблем или нет наркоманов. Конечно это специфическое место, здесь явно не получится развивать карьеру и получать миллионы,здесь нет небоскрёбов и дорогих тачек, но это и не депрессивная клоака, как её рисует видеоролик. Скорее провинциальный, тихий край, главное достояние которого это природа и прогулки по набережным и паркам в теплые летние деньки. Я бы рекомендовал хоть раз в жизни летом побывать на Алтае, в Новосибирске и других городах (например Кемерово), расширить кругозор так сказать) Ну а зимой многие приезжают отдыхать на Шерегеш.

Jesus! I was an IV user for many, many years, and I thought the places I was getting high were rough.
I can’t imagine living this way. It breaks my heart.
You would’ve had to give up on yourself and life completely in order to live in those conditions and take something that you know is rotting your skin off and killing you from the inside out.
I only hope at least one of them made it out of the horrors of addiction.

Through Alexey’s church, we arranged a meeting with some people who had been using krokodil and living in one of their mothers’ flats. They were completely incapacitated after using for a year, and the mother had become their caretaker. They were heroin addicts for a while, then they started to withdraw from heroin—we’ve got footage of them clean, and they looked happy enough. For some reason, they then decided they wanted to learn how to cook krokodil and spent a month and a half looking at recipes on the internet. And while they were cooking the krokodil in the kitchen, they’d yell at her and try to throw her out of her own home.
I guess they finally worked out the formula because when we got to them, post-krokodil, neither could communicate too well. They were like krokodil zombies. There was nothing behind their eyes.

Some may judge this type of content and maybe the type of people this video is refrencing. But it is the best of what we got in our time for a real life image of the inhumane things that happen out there in the world. For someone that never had the smallest encounter with this kind of missery and low, because they were lucky enough to be born in a better place, it just make you realize how really previliged you are. as russian who learning English, i find this film very interesting in two ways. At first of course of main idea about drug porblem, and a second how VICE show it — finding difference between russian speak and translation, montage. amazing job and horrible problem
