The first time I heard this piece (or anything by Arvo Part) was on the radio station of my local university as I was driving. It was so lovely and affecting it made me pull over to listen to the end. The style is called Tintinabulation.

Greater. The austerity of Bach, the Romanticism and existential insight of Bethooven. The prodigal carnality of Mozart. Pärt on the other hand. His beauty somehow also resides in the fact that his music is something that anyone can understand. It is a paradoxical lowest common denominator, that in its minimalism goes infinitely beyond however far others might stretch. In that fact lay some form of sincere and authentic religion that raises the music itself to a form of direct prayer.

Everything that Arvo Pärt writes is so simple, yet so profound. I don't know how somebody can do so much with so little. Maybe I'm biased as as a person of Estonian descent, but Arvo Pärt is by far the most moving of modern, or indeed all, composers.

Wonderful suggestion. I can't imagine that I hadn't thought of that before. I opened up to four or five windows, staggering the sound. Then, having to really explore this idea, I opened up a couple of more windows Frates and Te Deum playing (staggered) with Summa for Strings. I love to listen to Pärt this way. Thank you for tossing out that suggestion!

ahh yes, is wonderful... i very much enjoy laying 2 , 3 or more arvo compositions... i have also found i like to open brian eno with arvo also..or. in fact i will admit that i play any number of different tunes , from different artists, all at once... cant help it, i will then open up clips of old movies, and mute them, and get the full blown effect... great stuff... glad to see others do similar...
