«—não me preocupo se as noites mais longas se tornam longuíssimas;
grande acontecimento ilimitadamente terra)

The words of the original Summa by A. Part:

Credo in unum Deum.

Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum. Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum Et vitam venturi saeculi. Amen.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, Only begotten Son of God, Begotten of his Father before all worlds. God of God, light of light, Very God of very God. Begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father: by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven.

And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary: And was made man. And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate: suffered, and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead: His kingdom shall have no end. And [I believe in] the Holy Ghost, Lord and giver of life: Who proceedeth from the Father and Son. Who with the Father and Son together is worshipped and glorified:

Who spake by the Prophets. And in one holy catholic and apostolic church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead And the life of the world to come. Amen.

In a few hundred years, Arvo Pärt will be seen by people as we see composers like Beethoven and Mozart today.

Maira Leikarte

I sometimes forget, that they already don't. I forget what people know and what they do not. How can you remember that someone has never heard Spiegel I'm Spiegel, for example.

@H.C.S. Botch They call it modern art, don’t they? As it is the now of our era. I doubt even future historians will take his art into consideration. He will be erased and it’s heart wrenching but as the saying goes “different strokes for different folks”

H.C.S. Botch

Perhaps, but most likely, he'll be pegged into whatever music period the future historians refer to ours. I doubt it'll be called 'Modern' because we've been calling each contemporary moment 'Modern' since the 19th Century.

This is unfortunately untrue. The mainstream standard of composition has risen or diminished(depending on your speculation) and people shall never recognise Arvo. I don’t think his pieces will even inflate a millimetre of worth. This is tragic but inevitable. Our demographic’s perspective on what is good art and what isn’t will disregard this work as generic classical music, maybe even deprive Arov of his well befitted praise or just won’t spare him a glance. An unsung hero truly. Modern art has really dismantled judgement and slain so many prodigies.

Brünn hilde

Pärt has more of a darker, sentimental, romantic sound to his music. Very Elgar-esque in places, especially in his string writing.

Glass is more rhythmic and arguably more distinctive, but Pärt is just great!

@Luciana R. Rabi That's the paradox of reflecting on death.
