Still Remembering
As It Is Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My heart's as heavy
As these nights are long
And I curse these spaces between my fingers
Where for a time you belonged
And you'll find somebody new who's worth your time
Someone whose words sound sweeter than mine
I'll hope to mend, trying my best just to get by
Can you tell me what hurts more
Is it remembering or forgetting?
The past that once was ours
Am I remembering, still remembering or forgetting?

I've kept your portrait framed within my mind
It remains untouched
Of new paints and brushes, yet
Still it changed over time
When you left, not without warning or regret
Nothing would fill this hole in my chest
Here's your farewell
I wish you nothing but the best

Can you tell me what hurts more
Is it remembering or forgetting?
The past that once was ours
Am I remembering, still remembering or forgetting?

So, my love, goodbye
So, my love, goodbye

Tell me what hurts more
Is it remembering or forgetting?
The past that once was ours
Am I remembering, still remembering?
Can you tell me what hurts more
Is it remembering or forgetting?
The past that once was ours

Am I remembering, still remembering?
Am I remembering, still remembering or forgetting?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Still Remembering" by As It Is narrate the story of heartbreak and the torment of memories of a love that once was. The verses of the song paint a vivid picture of the sorrow and pain that the singer is going through. The lyrics "My heart's as heavy as these nights are long" paint the picture of the heaviness of the pain that weighs down the singer. The pain of the loss of love is felt so deeply that the singer curses the spaces between their fingers where their love once belonged.

The chorus of the song, "Can you tell me what hurts more, Is it remembering or forgetting? The past that once was ours, Am I remembering, still remembering or forgetting?" explores the conflict of whether to let go of the pain or to hold on to the memories. The singer is left with the dilemma of whether remembering or forgetting the love is more painful. The desire to replace the memories with something new is evident in the lyrics "And you'll find somebody new who's worth your time, Someone whose words sound sweeter than mine, I'll hope to mend, trying my best just to get by".

The final verse of the song, "Here's your farewell, I wish you nothing but the best, So, my love, goodbye, So, my love, goodbye" concludes the song with the singer accepting the loss of love while still hoping for the best, for both of them.

Overall, "Still Remembering" by As It Is is a poignant depiction of heartbreak and the struggle that comes with the battle between the pain of memories and the desire to forget.

My heart's as heavy,
As these nights are long,
And I curse these spaces between my fingers
Where for a time you belonged

And you'll find somebody new who's worth your time,
Someone who's words sound sweeter than mine
All that I meant,
Trying my best just to get by

Can you tell me what hurts more,
Is it remembering, or forgetting
The best that once was ours
Am I remembering, still remembering, or forgetting

I've kept your portrait, framed within my mind
It remains untouched of your paints and brushes that still changed over time

When you left, not without warning or regrets
Nothing would fill this hole in my chest,
Bid your farewell,
I wish you nothing but the best

Can you tell me what hurts more,
Is it remembering, or forgetting
The best that once was ours
Am I remembering, still remembering, or forgetting

So my love, goodbye
So my love, goodbye

Tell me what hurts more,
Is it remembering, or forgetting
The best that once was ours
Am I remembering, still remembering
Can you tell me what hurts more,is it rememberig

Alex Gaskarth's Eyebrows

Man, I remember listening to this song when it dropped in January, and not really thinking much of it. It was really good, and kind of sad, but I wasn't feeling it at the time. Now fast forward, me and my girlfriend parted ways and I came back to the song, and it really touched me and hit me so hard. I swear everything Patty was saying is what I felt, and cried. She's moved on now, and I'm still remembering.

The most touching part is wishing the other half all the best
