Your Anchor
Asaf Avidan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She said, baby you're my gold -
I said, no babe, just your banker
She said baby you're my chains -
I said, no hun, I'm your anchor
I said, baby you're my wings -
She said, no babe, you're a fish
I said, baby you're my dream -
She said, no hun, just your wish
She said, baby you're my river -
I said, no hun, I'm your drain
She said, baby you're my color -
I said, no babe, I'm you're stain
I said, baby you're my diamond -
She said, no babe, I'm just your pick
I said, baby, you are magic -
She said, no hun, just a trick
She said, baby you can see me -
I said, baby I just sense
She said, baby you're my castle -
I said, no hun, I'm your fence
I said, baby you are my lover
She said, no hun, just your maid

I said, baby I adore you -
She said, no babe, you're just afraid.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Asaf Avidan's song "Your Anchor" portray a conversation between two people who seem to be in a relationship. The first person tries to express their love for the second person by comparing them to things that hold great value or meaning, such as gold, wings, or a diamond. However, with each comparison, the second person disagrees and diminishes the meaning of the first person's words. The second person seems to be dismissing the first person's feelings and reducing their importance to a lesser degree.

The first person seems to be in love with the second person and trying to express their feelings in the best possible way, but the second person is not willing to acknowledge those feelings. The second person is either insecure or indifferent towards the first person's emotions. The first person compares themselves to an anchor, indicating that they are willing to stay committed and provide stability to the second person, but the second person dismisses it as being nothing more than a chain.

Overall, the lyrics suggest that communication and understanding are crucial in a relationship. One person's expression of love and commitment may not be understood or appreciated by the other person, leading to misunderstandings and conflicts.

I would die happy if I could see you live! I know it's a long shot but is there any possibility I could interview you for my blog? Your music and soul is indescribable and I want the world to see how absolutely amazing you are and I'd love to hear your story because you clearly have been through horrible heartbreak and I want to know the story behind your inspiration because you are my inspiration and many others especially since I'm a musician myself. Wishful thinking probably but miracles happen every day 😉

My wife, Lucia, had an exceptional talent to find good music on YouTube. I do not know how she did this, but everything she listened to was from exceptionally good to fantastic.
Some time ago, just before she passed away, she started speaking about a singer with an incredible voice and extraordinary music. And not only the voice and the music but the lyrics are lovely, coming from and going right to your soul.
The singer was Asaf Avidan.
I keep listening and I feel she is also listening.
Thank you, Asaf!
