1) Ash are an alternative rock band that formed in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland in 1992. The media originally pegged Ash's music as Britpop when the band first found mainstream success.
The current line-up of the group is as follows: Tim Wheeler (vocals and guitar), Mark Hamilton (bass guitar) and Rick McMurray (drums).
Ash's full-length debut "1977" was released in 1996 and followed 1994's mini album "Trailer". Named after the year they were all born (and in honour of the year Star Wars was released), "1977" displayed Wheeler and Hamilton's full-fledged love for all things extra-terrestrial and science fiction-related. In autumn 1997, guitarist Charlotte Hatherley was added to the existing trio. Hatherley was recruited from the band Nightnurse.
The new quartet's sophomore effort - "Nu-Clear Sounds" was released in 1998 to a mixed critical reaction. "Free All Angels" followed in April 2001, gaining a U.S. release in the following summer.
Meltdown, the band's first Stateside release for Record Collection, arrived in spring 2005. A year later, and after nine years with Ash, Charlotte Hatherley announced her departure from the band to concentrate on a solo career. The split was amicable and the members of the band have mentioned that they are open to Charlotte returning.

Cherry Bomb
Ash Lyrics

Immortal youth a libertine
Is she real or just a dream
My hearts beats fast like benzedrine
Every time that she walks by
Sends shivers down my spine
Makes me want to die
She is out their own her own
Perfect in her chromosomes
She walks by I need to know
Her blood red lips as soft as snow
Every time that she walks by
Sends shivers down my spine
Makes me want to die
Oh yeah, she's a cherry bomb
She's a bullet in my head
Pull the trigger and I'm dead
Uh uh uh oh, oh yeah
When she walks across the floor
Electric shocks and my heart is raw
Is she real or just a dream
My hearts beats fast like benzedrine
Every time that she walks by
Sends shivers down my spine
Makes me want to die
Oh yeah, she's a cherry bomb
She's a bullet in my head
Pull the trigger and I'm dead
Uh uh uh oh, oh yeah
She's a cherry bomb
She's a bullet in my head
Pull the trigger and I'm dead
She's a cherry bomb
Dream about her in my bed
Pull the trigger and I'm dead
Uh uh uh oh, oh yeah
Uh uh uh oh, oh yeah
Uh uh uh oh, oh yeah
The song "Cherry Bomb" by Ash is a poetic portrayal of a teenage crush. The first few lines of the song introduce the object of the singer's affection as a "teenage queen," who possesses immortal youth and an unbridled sense of freedom, represented by the word libertine. However, the singer is unsure if this person actually exists or if they are merely a figment of his imagination. The singer's heart beats fast like benzadrine, a stimulant often prescribed for treating attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which serves as a metaphor for the surge of energy and excitement he feels in the presence of his crush.
As the song progresses, the singer describes the physical effects of being near his crush. Her mere presence sends shivers down his spine and makes him feel as though he might die from the intensity of his emotions. This feeling is likened to being shot by a bullet, with his crush being the "cherry bomb" that causes the explosion. The final verse of the song is particularly poignant, as the singer dreams of being with his crush in his bed, but he knows that he can never truly have her. Pulling the trigger in this case is a symbolic act that represents the inevitability of disappointment and unrequited love.
Overall, "Cherry Bomb" is an anthem of unrequited love that captures the tumultuous emotions of a teenage crush. It is a powerful reminder that even though love can be exhilarating, it can also be painful and ultimately unfulfilling – a lesson that many of us have learned the hard way.
