Give Me Some Truth
Ash Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth now
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope
I'm sick to death of seeing things
From tight-lipped, condescending, mama's little chauvinists
All I want is the truth now
Just gimmie some truth now
I've had enough of watching scenes
Of schizophrenic, ego-centric, paranoiac, prima-donnas
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
It's money for dope
Money for rope
Ah, I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
The song Gimme Some Truth by Ash is a cover of a song originally written and performed by John Lennon. The lyrics speak to the frustration felt towards those in power who manipulate the truth for their own gain. The singer is sick and tired of hearing lies from hypocrites, politicians, and chauvinists. They're craving the truth, and they're not going to be fooled by those who try to trick them with empty promises.
The repetition of the line "just gimme some truth now" emphasizes the urgency of the situation. The use of alliteration in phrases like "neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians" and "tight-lipped, condescending, mama's little chauvinists" adds a poetic quality to the lyrics while also driving home the singer's frustration. The inclusion of the reference to "tricky dicky," a nickname for President Richard Nixon, further highlights the mistrust of those in power.
Overall, the song is a call to action, urging listeners to seek out the truth for themselves and not blindly accept what they're told. It's a reminder that those in power are not always looking out for the best interests of the people they serve.
