Trained in Indian classical singing and a natural jazz improviser, Asha Puthli created her own unique sound in the 1970s - soft, slinky, sexy, meditative, and chilled out. Captured on classic recordings like "Space Talk" and "Say Yes," that distinctively cool sound prefigured the entire rise of acid jazz and ambient dance music. Today, as Asha Puthli prepares to release new material, her songs are being rediscovered by legions of hip-hop, neo-soul, nu-jazz, and electronica fans.
Born and raised in Bombay, Asha emigrated to the United States to pursue jazz. Upon her arrival, Asha was championed by Columbia Records impresario John Hammond, who had forged a brilliant career discovering acts like Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Hammond sent her to record with avant-garde pioneer Ornette Coleman, and her performances on his arresting Science Fiction album garnered her the highly prestigious Downbeat Critics' Poll award for "best female jazz vocalist," alongside Ella Fitzgerald and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Historian Robert Palmer gushed about Asha's sound: "A sound like Raga meeting Aretha Franklin, Miss Puthli's singing is . . . extraordinary."
Asha is staging a major comeback with a jazz album, her first solo recording project in nearly fifteen years. She is also completing a remix project of her classic songs, and in 2006 will be appearing live for the first time in years in major US and European venues.
Space Talk
Asha Puthli Lyrics

Still looking for love
Venus please help me
Sos planet, i need someone right now
Strange, you give me strange thoughts
Space, give me some space,
Now that I've found you
We'll get so high
Slow, time moves so slowly
Slick sharp as a blade
Cutting through my life
When I'm alone
Time moves on, stretching my age
Sleek, steel sheet of water
Shine, shine shine, shine energy
Electric fingers, searing my soul
Static shock, make love to me
Taking a space walk, space talk, taking a space walk space, taking a space walk, space talk, taking a space walk, space, taking a space walk space talk taking a space walk space, taking a space walk
Space talk, taking a space walk space
The lyrics of Asha Puthli's song "Space Talk" seem to be describing a search for love that is taking place within the vast expanse of space. The singer is "taking a space walk" and still "looking for love," and calls out to Venus for help. They are feeling alone and in need of someone, urgently requesting "SOS planet."
Throughout the song, the singer meditates on the strange and slow nature of time in space, the sense of isolation that they feel when they are alone, and the intense energy that they experience when they connect with someone or something. There is a tension between the desire to be alone and the need for connection, and the song seems to be a meditation on these conflicting emotions.
At the same time, the lyrics are evocative and poetic, using vivid imagery and metaphor to convey a sense of wonder and awe. The "sleek, steel sheet of water" and the "electric fingers searing my soul" are examples of the way the song uses language to paint vivid pictures of the experience of space.
Overall, "Space Talk" is a captivating and complex song that explores themes of love, isolation, and wonder in a unique and compelling way.

Bellissima cantante con una voce particolare quasi come quella di una ragazzina che canta canzoni altrettanto belle, peccato non la si vede più in Italia. Questa canzone era il lato B sul 45 giri della canzone più nota " The davil is loose".
