The Other Band
Ashton Nyte Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

and so where is your cause?
neanderthal matadors
you give me such, such
chronic indigestion

i see you on the floor
as subtle as unholy whores
you move in packs
like some starless constellation

'cos i know what it takes to arrive
at a conclusion
and i know where the others play
at revolution
i know what it takes to push it like a heroin

and i feel your eyes on me
so quick to point when you're in threes
like animals
but without the imagination

'cos i know what it takes to arrive
at a conclusion
and i know where the others play
at revolution
i know what it takes to push it like a heroin

does it hurt to see everybody knows me?
don't let it get you down, don't try to
show me
your mediocrity has bored them senseless
your mundanity is just so relentless

and so where is your cause?
neanderthal matadors
you give me such, such
chronic indigestion

oh so who was it now?
who did you in, who did you wrong?

do you believe your
bullshit manifestations?

Overall Meaning

In Ashton Nyte's song "The Other Band", the lyrics speak to the frustration and annoyance of dealing with those who seem to lack individuality and morals. The first verse describes these individuals as "neanderthal matadors", which could be interpreted as people who are primitive in their actions but still manage to put on a show, much like a bullfighter. The singer of the song experiences physical symptoms of discomfort, such as chronic indigestion, when in the presence of these people.

The second verse continues with a comparison of these people to "unholy whores", insinuating that they are immoral and lacking in integrity. The singer sees them as a group, moving together like a "starless constellation", without any real sense of direction or purpose. The chorus repeats the phrase "I know what it takes to arrive at a conclusion" as a reminder that the singer is secure in their own beliefs and opinions, and isn't swayed by the opinions of these individuals.

The third verse addresses the subject directly, questioning their motives and hinting that they are jealous of the singer's success. The phrase "mediocrity has bored them senseless" suggests that these individuals are envious but lack the drive to achieve success for themselves. The song closes with a repetition of the first verse, reinforcing the idea that these people are primitive and lacking in morals.

I remember opening for them at the Heart and Soul cafe in Chicago. I was the bassist in Dead to Sin. This was in 2002 or 2003. It was that long ago. They were awesome live.
