You'll think I'm getting off of my range
Oh but I calculate that you're from my state
And though you may think it's strange
I allow as how you're from Texas
Because the lingo I understand
I'll bet my kale that you hail from Texas
You've got a smile like an acre of sunflowers
Your eyes are blue bonnet blue
Shake hands it's grand that you're from Texas
'Cause I'm from Texas too
You've got a smile like an acre of sunflowers
Your eyes are blue bonnet blue
Shake hands it's grand that you're from Texas
'Cause I'm from Texas too
The lyrics of Asleep At The Wheel's song You're From Texas celebrate the pride and sense of identity that comes with being from Texas. The singer addresses a stranger, acknowledging that some may find it odd that he would assume the other person is from Texas, but his "lingo" gives him away. The singer goes on to praise the stranger's physical appearance, noting that their smile is "like an acre of sunflowers" and their eyes are "blue bonnet blue," a reference to the state flower of Texas.
The main theme of this song is pride in one's home state and the feeling of kinship and camaraderie that comes from sharing that identity with others. The song celebrates the unique culture and identity of Texas, from the distinctive way of speaking to the iconic images of sunflowers and bluebonnets. By identifying someone else as being from this same place, the singer is acknowledging a shared sense of belonging and connection.
Overall, You're From Texas is a joyous tribute to the Lone Star State and the deep sense of identity and pride that comes with being from there.
