Painful Process
Asphyxia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'd be a lying man if I said that "Everything was fine,"
But sometimes lying's really the truth in disguise
I've come to find my heart isn't right with my soul
Two different loves with a similar glow

I'm two steps away from my subtle smooth escape
And opportunity is knocking on my door
I call in sick today
I regret all my mistakes
And opportunity is knocking on my door

I'm a trend, you're a crook
And we're all just suckers for a line with a hook
And there's nothing in this ghost town
But the cries and the souls
That we've found

I'm two steps away from my subtle smooth escape
And opportunity is knocking on my door
I call in sick today
I regret all my mistakes
And opportunity is knocking on my door
I'm two steps away from my subtle smooth escape
And opportunity is knocking on my door
I call in sick today
I regret all my mistakes
And opportunity is knocking on my door

What a mess I become
I'm not sure if I'm the right one
It's not just me; it's my whole generation
Generation
Generation

I've come to find my heart isn't right
I've come to find my heart isn't right with my soul
With my soul
With my soul
With my soul

I'm two steps away from my subtle smooth escape
And opportunity is knocking on my door
I call in sick today
I regret all my mistakes
And opportunity is knocking on my door

And opportunity is knocking on my door
And opportunity is knocking on my door

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Asphyxia's song Painful Process seem to express the internal struggle that the singer is experiencing. The first few lines reveal that things are not as fine as they may seem on the surface, and sometimes lying becomes a way to disguise the truth. The singer realizes that their heart isn't in line with their soul, that there are two different loves with a similar glow. It seems that they are conflicted between something they believe they want or desire and the reality they face.

The next stanza suggests that the singer is on the verge of making a big decision, perhaps even risking something. "I'm two steps away from my subtle smooth escape," they say, indicating a desire to escape from something, though it is unclear what that something might be. At the same time, opportunity is knocking, presenting a dilemma for the singer. They then say, "I call in sick today, I regret all my mistakes," hinting at a sense of guilt or regret that has been weighing on them.

The rest of the song is about internal conflict, with lines like "What a mess I become, I'm not sure if I'm the right one," and "It's not just me; it's my whole generation." The singer seems to be grappling with some existential questions about their place in the world and whether they are living up to their potential. Ultimately, the song ends with an indefinite resolution to the singer's struggle, leaving the listener to interpret the lyrics and their meaning for themselves.

Feel your anger reach your soul
Born to wait, your bring me down
Try to understand why your behaviour changed

Feed your eyes in drugs
Let go, the way to die
Feel this painful process through your shouts

Face burning to ashes bearing my insults tonight
I don´t want to survive anymnore

Here´s my take on the lyrics, since official ones are nowhere to be found. Why so many artists leave their lyrics a complete mystery is beyond me, especially with distorted vocals like this that are hard to understand. This is old school Tactical Sekt/Aslan Faction all over again.

+Sublime Heretic I write lyrics myself for fun, I`ve read like 1500 lyrics in my life, 95% of them metal and dark electro, so I am familiar with this kind of approach to this subject. But my God, those are one of the worst I`ve ever seen. Just because it uses harsh and big-sounding words it doesn`t mean it`s good. You said it yourself "heavy and dark". Yea, and nothing more. It requires no skill to write crap like that. It`s about nothing and makes no sense. Only shitty pop and "fuckthepolice" rap is worse than this.

At least artists like Psyclon Nine can make them cool and sometimes smart, even though they`re bad. Seriously, try writing lyrics yourself and you`ll discover it takes 10 minutes to write much better ones.

I love this genre to death, but almost always I`m disappointed with this meaningless bullshit they sing, even though sometimes it`s cool.

Sublime Heretic

+The TrapsMaster I´m not an expert when it comes to this genre, since I barely have any idea what the correct definition even is, industrial, dark electro, aggrotech, EBM, it´s all in the same bin for me and has been for many years. I haven´t heard of those particular artists so I have no idea about their lyrics. If you can´t find the lyrics you are looking for online, there is a pretty good chance you´ll never find them. Fans usually post official lyrics ASAP to different sites, so it´s just bad luck if official lyrics are nowhere to be found. You could always go to the source and ask from the artist directly, but I haven´t had any luck with that approach myself.

I just try to interpret unknown lyrics to the best of my ability and share them here on YT comments so other people can join in on the process. I have loads of these going on at the same time, but I´m not willing to share them unless I have the majority of the track done.

As for the lyrics being crap, I don´t think so. Different styles for different people, not everything has to be super aggressive and dark in my opinion. That said, Sense Of Decay and Concupiscentia by Asphyxia have some pretty heavy and dark lyrics in my opinion, go give them a try and see if that floats your boat.

The TrapsMaster

+Sublime Heretic Wow, you`re right, I can`t believe I didn`t notice. Thanks. Btw I`m disappointed as hell, because all of those lyrics are pure shit and pretty lame even by aggrotech standards. Do you feel the same way? Also, is there a way to find lyrics for SIN DNA first two albums? Or PreEmptive Strike 0.1 albums except Epos V?

Sublime Heretic

@The TrapsMaster It´s one of the few songs you can actually find the lyrics to online. Just look them up on google.

+Sublime Heretic Could you decipher lyrics for Obliterate My Fate?

From my point off vue this group is the true definition of what Cyber Punk should look like. These guys are amazing, truly unique and way underrated. Outstanding job :)

Industrial and EBM is what you are thinking of. Cyber Goth and Kandi Kidd. Cyberpunk is WAY different; you misunderstand what it is.
