This audio clash is where Astrix's music have emerged from & been embraced by hundreds of thousands across so many nations and continents. As an incredibly popular DJ and producer, Avi Shmailov, aka Astrix, always thinks ahead how to tailor his sets and productions for his devoted fans, but not forgetting to please the casual dancers. Astrix needs to connect with everyone in the crowd, those who are unfamiliar with his works and at the same time with his followers throughout the years.
Rewind back to 2002, Astrix is signed to leading label HOMmega and is introduced to the world with his debut album "Eye To Eye". Things started to roll for Avi Shamilov from that point on, the world wide scene fell captivated with his unique, smart melodic style. Touring massively after the "Eye To Eye" album release didn't leave much studio time for Avi, it took two years to write & perfect his 2nd album, "Artcore" which came out in 2004. "Artcore" raised the bar with groundbreaking achievements if in CD sales, tracks used in movies, video games and TV commercials.
Once Astrix's musical sound got familiarized as his trademark, he turned to invest the years after to developing his DJ persona. Compiling & producing for leading brands such as: "Nu-clear Visions of Israel" (Tip/2003), "Psychedelic Academy" (Hit Mania/2005) and "Astrix & Friends" (DJ mag/2007). In 2009 Astrix's label, HOMmega productions, was the first to release an Astrix digital artist album, on a compact stick flash drive format, "One Step Ahead" (HOMmega/2009)
Evolving into one the world known DJ MAG TOP 100 DJs placed Astrix on the roads for an almost nonstop world wide tour. He rocked festivals across the globe including Dance Valley, SW4, Creamfileds, Love Parade, UAF, Skol Beats, Planeta Atlantida and headlined nights in the best clubs and venues such as Alexandra Palace, Brixton Academy, Pacha, Ministry of sounds, The City, Volume, Nox and so many more which he visited repeatedly .
Over the last couple of years, studio time was a rare commodity for Avi Shamilov, but never the less he always managed to find the extra hours to work on his 3rd studio album for HOMmega. ‘Red Means Distortion’ is the result of some very late night sessions, everything to reach the perfection he needs to return back to those who were waiting patiently for his 3rd studio album.

A exatos 20 anos atrás, especificamente em 10.10.2002 era lançado pela gravadora Hommega Records o que viria a ser um dos mais importantes e reconhecidos álbuns da história do psytrance. Astrix (Avi Shamailov) então com 21 anos de idade, lança seu primeiro álbum de estudio "Eye To Eye".
Anos antes, Astrix já havia produzido algumas tracks do gênero Nitzhonot. Foi realmente descoberto quando colaborou com Alien Project no álbum Midnight Sun lançado em 2001.
Em seu primeiro grande trabalho "Eye to Eye", Astrix apresenta seu precoce talento, já mostrando que ele possuía uma habilidade acima da média em relação as produções de seus conterrâneos israelitas.
Eye To Eye representa toda a efervescência do Full On, gênero que estava em ascensão desde 1998 sendo trabalhado pelos mais variados artistas. Elementos e traços do antigo e descontinuado Goa Trance também estão presentes no álbum. Considerado por muitos fãs e DJ's como o melhor álbum do artista (eu particularmente ainda prefiro os outros três), talvez seja o mais introspectivo e psicodélico.
Eye to Eye foi algo revolucionário para o psytrance? Na verdade não, conforme já comentado acima, tracks do mesmo estilo estavam sendo produzidas aos montes por diversos projetos. O que o Astrix fez foi condensar de uma maneira magistral toda essência do Full On da época em uma compilação com produções extremamente originais, superando o que já se tinha sido produzido até então! Afinal, é difícil citar algum álbum ou compilação de psytrance anterior que tenha ficado tão bom e tão bem feito quanto "Eye to Eye". O gênio se apresenta ao mundo!
Desde então Eye to Eye vira uma obra de referência e passa a servir de inspiração para produções futuras em toda a cena. A partir desse CD e para os anos seguintes, Astrix já assumiria o posto de melhor e principal artista de psytrance do mundo, para de lá não mais sair.
Passados 20 anos, com todas mudanças, evoluções tecnológicas e todo o processo de criação de novos gêneros e sub gêneros, ouvir as tracks de “Eye to Eye” pode ser algo ultrapassado? Para alguns.....talvez. Eu prefiro ver como uma obra atemporal! Algo a ser conhecido e apreciado por todas as gerações de entusiastas e amantes do psytrance. Algo a ser lembrado por muitas e muitas décadas.
Retornamos em 2024 para relembrarmos os 20 anos de seu segundo álbum.....Artcore.

Exactly 20 years ago, specifically on 10.10.2002, the label Hommega Records released what would become one of the most important and recognized albums in the history of psytrance. Astrix (Avi Shamailov) then 21 years old, releases her first studio album "Eye To Eye".
Years before, Astrix had already produced some tracks in the Nitzhonot genre. It was really discovered when he collaborated with Alien Project on the Midnight Sun album released in 2001.
In his first major work "Eye to Eye", Astrix presents his precocious talent, already showing that he had an above average skill in relation to the productions of other Israeli projects.
Eye To Eye represents all the effervescence of Full On, a genre that was on the rise since 1998 being worked on by the most varied artists. Elements and traces of the old and discontinued Goa Trance are also present on the album. Considered by many fans and DJ's as the best album (I personally still prefer the other three), it is perhaps the most introspective and psychedelic.
Was Eye to Eye something revolutionary for psytrance? Not really, as already mentioned above, tracks of the same style were being produced in droves by various projects. What Astrix did was to masterfully condense all the essence of Full On at the time, into a compilation with extremely original productions, surpassing what had already been produced until then! After all, it's hard to name any previous psytrance album or compilation that was as good and well done as "Eye to Eye". The genius appears to the world!
Since then, Eye to Eye has become a reference, and serves as an inspiration for future productions throughout the scene. From this CD and for the following years, Astrix would already assume the position of best and main psytrance artist in the world, never to leave there.
After 20 years, with all the changes, technological evolutions and the whole process of creating new genres and sub-genres, can listening to the tracks of “Eye to Eye” be something outdated? For some.....maybe. I prefer to see it as a timeless work! Something to be known and appreciated by all generations of psytrance enthusiasts and lovers. Something to remember for many, many decades.
We return in 2024 to remember 20 years of his second album....Artcore.
