At the End
At The End Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of At The End's song "At The End" tell a story that begins with the singer having a dream that the house they used to live in is being destroyed by a large, blue bulldozer, leaving them in tears when they wake up. The singer then recalls a trip they took to see whales but only ended up seeing dolphins, and on the ride back they experienced severe seasickness. They try to feign excitement and passion, but they are aware that their emotions have become numb. Despite this, they want to find that lost passion again and have the person they're addressing in the song, whose eyes they mention, help them find it. The singer finishes with a reflection that they don't necessarily dislike food or can't eat, but they can't stop thinking about that day and can't make anything seem as delicious.
The song seems to explore feelings of loss, nostalgia, and emotional desensitization. The dream of the house being destroyed could represent a sense of displacement or losing a sense of belonging. The singer is also trying to recapture the passion they once felt for something, possibly to do with why they had to leave the house mentioned in the dream. The line about the whale watching trip implies that the singer might be trying to find meaning or excitement in experiences that ultimately fall short of expectations, leaving them feeling emotionally depleted.

At the end of the video, I still didn't understand what he meant so I watched it again and again. In the end, I totally understand the difference between 'In the end' and 'At the end'.
Very very useful lesson. Thank you!!!
@gabriellee1987
AT the end has a literal meaning, while "in the end", equal to "finally", is like an idiom, or a metaphor.
