After signing with AFM Records in 2002, the band then released "Only Human" before touring Europe with Rhapsody and Angel Dust.
Singer Oliver Hartmann then left the band and a replacement was found in former Yngwie Malmsteen singer Mats Leven.
Lenk spent the next few months writing 2003's album “The Evil In You”. A tour with Kamelot followed. After that, "Chained" was released in 2005 and secured chart entries in Scandinavia. The band then toured with Brainstorm and Mercenary. Mats Leven is no longer a member of At Vance and was replaced by Rick Altzi for their newest album, VII.

At Vance Lyrics

I feel so empty, cold and bare
And all that I can do is wait
Pray to give me peace of mind
Sacred heart what I long to get
I'm losing the ground
The earth starts to quake
Doors open up
I see the burning gate
But I tear down these bridges
I keep fighting for our love
Ride the sky
Rising higher above the clouds
Ride the sky
Following the decent name
We thought we could rule the world
Nothing that we couldn't bear
Side by side we walked the line
It felt so strong your hand in mine
Sacred heart I just can't regret
Where is my heart
I lay down the cards
Until the day
We will fall apart
I keep tearing down these bridges
I keep fighting for our love
The opening verse of At Vance's song "Ride The Sky" speaks to the feeling of emptiness and longing that the singer experiences in the absence of their love. The imagery presented in "empty, cold, and bare" sets a bleak emotional landscape that may resonate with anyone who has experienced heartbreak. The singer prays for peace of mind, as a way of coping with the uncertainty and confusion that comes with the end of a relationship. The second verse brings up the idea of a "sacred heart" which the singer desires, but it's unclear what that symbolizes. Perhaps it is an idealized love or a sense of righteousness that has been lost.
In the chorus, the singer finds solace in the idea of riding the sky, which could be interpreted both literally and figuratively. On the one hand, it's a direct call to escape the earthly troubles and physical boundaries by metaphorically soaring above them; on the other, it can also represent a more spiritual or emotional ascent, where one reaches a higher level of understanding, acceptance, or transcendence. The repetition of the phrase "ride the sky" emphasizes the idea of liberation and the ability to rise above pain and suffering.
The third verse is a reflection on the past relationship; the couple thought they were invincible and could conquer everything together. However, things have changed, and the singer is left wondering where their heart is. The use of the metaphor of "laying down the cards" suggests that the singer is willing to take a step back and reassess their situation. Yet, the last line shows the determination to fight for the relationship and not give up – "I keep tearing down these bridges, I keep fighting for our love."
Overall, "Ride The Sky" is a song about persevering through difficult times and finding hope in the face of adversity. It acknowledges the pain of heartbreak but also celebrates the power of perseverance and the transformative potential of love.
