Pendulum in a Peasant Dress
At the Drive-In Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They're spraying our block with chemtrail praise
And all the crisis actors want to man the hotlines
Talk you off the ledge, hermetically seal it
In accordance to the rules of harmony

One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want
But the heart is broken
One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want
But the heart is broken
One shot hits in the gut, she's a pendulum swinging for f-f-fences
She's just a lantern jaw plagiarizing ground assault

TV's gonna comm lag, jettison the populace
Disassociation in the belly of the beast
Break the fourth wall, break the fourth wall come on
Lobotomize the question of my infinitude

An ensemble of dissent, she's just tampering with alarms
But she's tampering with blatto
Finely tune their gestures, tampering with false alarms
Swinging for electric fences, electric fences
Come on and get me out

One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want
But the heart is broken
One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want
But the heart is broken
One shot hits in the gut, she's a pendulum swinging for f-f-fences
She's just a lantern jaw plagiarizing ground assault

The hand of God keeps me from watching
Feel it raining down and down
Triangulated at the crossing
I never knew what knocked me out

Facsimile shadows my last breath
Feel it raining it down and down
The hail of doubt will always stop you
On the night that they bowed out

One shot in the chamber
One shot in the chamber
The hand of God keeps us from watching
The hand that's always raining down and down and down

One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want
But the heart is broken
One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want
But the heart is broken

One shot hits in the gut, she's a pendulum swinging for f-f-fences
She's just a lantern jaw plagiarizing ground assault

Overall Meaning

The song "Pendulum in a Peasant Dress" by At the Drive-In is a reflection of the political and social turmoil of the early 2000s. The lyrics paint a picture of a world under constant surveillance, where governments and corporations are out of control and the people are powerless to stop it. The reference to chemtrails, a conspiracy theory about the government spraying chemicals into the air for nefarious purposes, highlights the distrust and paranoia many people felt during this time.

The chorus, "One shot delivers us from what the heart don't want, But the heart is broken," is a commentary on the idea of quick fixes and easy solutions to complex problems, which ultimately fail to address the underlying issues. The image of a pendulum swinging for fences, coupled with the reference to "plagiarizing ground assault," speaks to the futility of violence and aggression in the pursuit of change.

The verses contain a mishmash of references to technology, media, and warfare. Lines like "TV's gonna comm lag, jettison the populace" and "Lobotomize the question of my infinitude" suggest a world where technology has created a distance between people and their own humanity. The repetition of the line "One shot in the chamber" gives a sense of urgency and danger, as if the singer is on the verge of losing control.

Overall, "Pendulum in a Peasant Dress" is a powerful statement about the state of the world and the struggles faced by those trying to navigate it. The references may be somewhat dated, but the sentiment still rings true today.

If people believe that chemtrails are faux, it's actually an indication that the system works. I encourage everybody to think for themselves and to actually look up to the skies from time to time. With an open mind.

The thing is yes, they are indeed doing lots of stuff that is not in our best interest.
And yeah we should be critical of our government. For example almost everybody denies the biggest reason for climate change : meat production and consumption.
Cars driving on fossil fuels when technology is already years ahead.

The biggest flaw, I think is that they programm us to live as drones, driven by the desire of success, in a world of competition. There are other ways.
We don't have to compete. The world is abundant. All we need is here.
I could go on talking about this for hours. But if we want change, Talking won't be enough. That's why I make videos and hope to get people to think and listen to their hearts.

They actually want us to stay asleep. It generates profit for them. They are running after something that doesn't even exist : Money.
We should focus on what exists : Our beautiful Earth. <3

But well it's nice to know that there are people out there who take their time to really think about topics like this. Thank you :)
Love and Peace to You all :) <3

uhhh no. literally everything you just listed has been debunked.

However, there are plenty of REAL conspiracies more worthy of your attention. We've got LEAD poisoning in the water supplies of poverty stricken towns (not just Flint) due to a crumbling infrastructure that's been glossed over by a corporate driven news media. Mainstream news outlets took every shot they could at the DAPL protests while taking ad money from the oil industry and bashed the police brutality protests to serve the private prison sector. We have a gerrymandered political system that has been engineered so that sitting politicians can ensure their re-election.
We have corporate interest groups funding think-tanks who then fund private "scientific" studies with the sole purpose of missleading the public away from legitimate science that shows that the products they sell us are harmful to ourselves and our environment.

So maybe toss out the chem trail, sandyhook nonsense and fight the ACTUAL causes of our oppression because the only thing that comes close to being as heinous as the rich powers corrupting our politics are the swarms of "woke" anarcho-punks that respond to them, armed with little to no genuine knowledge but endowed with a restless drive to act that sweeps others who want to be socially conscious off their feet, defocusing all the energy we should be excerting towards cleaning up this mess we're in and spreading it thin over a myriad of bullshit causes and reducing their impact to a zilch.
We could definitely do with less beatnicks who cause more harm than they do good.

But wait! I've got more!
Go back to the video description and re-read the lyrics... because after reading it enough times, I would bet good money that this song is ACTUALLY about political actors and fear mongerers stirring up fear and confusion amongst the populace with misinformation. I think the chem-trail line specifically refers to the spread of bull shit hoaxes like the chem-trail theory.

Also, it makes sense when you consider the song's title. A pendulum in peasant's clothes could be referring to a corporately paid off political commentator masquerading as a concerned, socially conscious citizen, one of us.
