1) Ataraxia was a pseudonym used by experimental electronic musician Mort Garson only on his 1975 album "The Unexplained: Electronic Musical Impressions of the Occult".
2) Ataraxia, formed in 1985, is a neofolk / neoclassical band from Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, that combines modern technology with archaic instrumentation over various media. They describe their music as a cross "between sacred and profane, ethereal and neoclassic, contemporary and early music." Their work has often involved research into European legends and Classical mythology. Contemplation, dreamy experiences, elegiac atmospheres, ritual movements float in a mysterious garden where contemporary textures of notes meet the embracing echo of classic sounds. Their lyrics are written in many ancient and contemporary languages (such as Latin, French, German, English, and their native Italian) as they try to bring to the surface the hidden treasures and revelations of each. Many of their performances take place in locations the band professes to possess specific spiritual qualities. Since their beginnings in the late 1980s, they have recorded over 20 original LPs every one presenting its own original concept. To name just a few, La Malédiction d'Ondine (1995) deals with female spirits of water and earth; while “Llyr” (2010) tells the story of a divine being traveling through times and forms. Their last work Quasar (2020) is dedicated to 7 archangelic archetypes.
Some of their earlier long sold-out albums have been recently re-released with numerous bonus-tracks.

Contemplation, grace, sensual pleasure, union
elsewhere...
desire, destiny, existence, equilibrium
azure ideal, spirit
elsewhere...
mysteries, music, birth,
ocean, oxigene, space
"Modulo incanti
e incanti io so dire
vibrando primavera di capelli
Melodiosa piu di un arpa d'oro,
piu dell'oro,
parlami cetra divina,
trova la voce!
...e tu, si tu Calliope,
flauto dolcenota,
piu d'ogni cosa aleggi..."
(extract from Sappho's poems)
The lyrics to Ataraxia's song "Aperlae" are a collection of abstract and philosophical concepts framed within poetic language. The first stanza presents a series of four concepts: contemplation, grace, sensual pleasure, and union. These concepts are ambiguous, and their meanings can be interpreted in a variety of ways. It could be said that the stanza is describing a state of mind, where contemplation and grace lead to sensual pleasure and ultimately to a sense of union or completeness.
The second stanza presents another four concepts: desire, destiny, existence, and equilibrium. Again, these concepts are abstract and can be interpreted in many different ways. They could be related to the human experience - desire leading us towards our destiny, our existence, and finally finding balance or equilibrium. The reference to an "azure ideal" and "spirit" could suggest the idea of a higher consciousness or transcendent state.
The final stanza references Sappho's poems and the power of musical instruments, specifically the harp and flute. These instruments are said to have the power to enchant and transport the listener to a higher realm, and the singer implores them to find their voice and speak to them.
Overall, the lyrics of "Aperlae" are a complex interweaving of abstract concepts and poetic language, leaving their meaning open to interpretation.
