1) Ataraxia was a pseudonym used by experimental electronic musician Mort Garson only on his 1975 album "The Unexplained: Electronic Musical Impressions of the Occult".
2) Ataraxia, formed in 1985, is a neofolk / neoclassical band from Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, that combines modern technology with archaic instrumentation over various media. They describe their music as a cross "between sacred and profane, ethereal and neoclassic, contemporary and early music." Their work has often involved research into European legends and Classical mythology. Contemplation, dreamy experiences, elegiac atmospheres, ritual movements float in a mysterious garden where contemporary textures of notes meet the embracing echo of classic sounds. Their lyrics are written in many ancient and contemporary languages (such as Latin, French, German, English, and their native Italian) as they try to bring to the surface the hidden treasures and revelations of each. Many of their performances take place in locations the band professes to possess specific spiritual qualities. Since their beginnings in the late 1980s, they have recorded over 20 original LPs every one presenting its own original concept. To name just a few, La Malédiction d'Ondine (1995) deals with female spirits of water and earth; while “Llyr” (2010) tells the story of a divine being traveling through times and forms. Their last work Quasar (2020) is dedicated to 7 archangelic archetypes.
Some of their earlier long sold-out albums have been recently re-released with numerous bonus-tracks.

Flora
Ataraxia Lyrics

with talons dirty of earth
I've pulled up, lacerated,
I've moulded me like mud
I've dug, removed tumuls and roots
I was rooted to the earth
I've modulated me in the deep slow flowing
of the underground seasons
I've disentangled from the womb of the earth like
a wild weed
I rise primigenial livid daughter of creation
I rise primigenial livid daughter of creation
Ataraxia's song "Flora" speaks to the journey of growth and transformation. The lyrics suggest that the singer has undergone a process of transformation, starting from a state of being rooted in the earth, to becoming a flourishing, primordial being. The lyricism of the song is rich with natural imagery and metaphor, depicting the process of growth and transformation as a cycle that is both beautiful and painful.
The first verse describes the singer as someone who has "unraveled green tangles" and "pulled up, lacerated" to become "molded... like mud." This language suggests the act of gardening or working with plants, as the singer's "talons" (a metaphor for hands) become dirty from digging into the soil. As the singer works with the earth, they become rooted to it, becoming one with the underground seasons.
In the second verse, the singer continues to describe their transformation, stating that they have "taken shape like a shrub dilating [their] limbs" and "disentangled from the womb of the earth." The language here is sensual, describing the process of growth and transformation as an organic process that is both beautiful and painful. The singer ultimately becomes a "primigenial livid daughter of creation," a powerful embodiment of nature itself.
Overall, Ataraxia's "Flora" is a powerful, poetic celebration of growth, transformation, and the beauty of the natural world. The lyrics evoke a powerful sense of connection to the earth, and the imagery used is rich with natural metaphor and symbolism.
