1) Ataraxia was a pseudonym used by experimental electronic musician Mort Garson only on his 1975 album "The Unexplained: Electronic Musical Impressions of the Occult".
2) Ataraxia, formed in 1985, is a neofolk / neoclassical band from Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, that combines modern technology with archaic instrumentation over various media. They describe their music as a cross "between sacred and profane, ethereal and neoclassic, contemporary and early music." Their work has often involved research into European legends and Classical mythology. Contemplation, dreamy experiences, elegiac atmospheres, ritual movements float in a mysterious garden where contemporary textures of notes meet the embracing echo of classic sounds. Their lyrics are written in many ancient and contemporary languages (such as Latin, French, German, English, and their native Italian) as they try to bring to the surface the hidden treasures and revelations of each. Many of their performances take place in locations the band professes to possess specific spiritual qualities. Since their beginnings in the late 1980s, they have recorded over 20 original LPs every one presenting its own original concept. To name just a few, La Malédiction d'Ondine (1995) deals with female spirits of water and earth; while “Llyr” (2010) tells the story of a divine being traveling through times and forms. Their last work Quasar (2020) is dedicated to 7 archangelic archetypes.
Some of their earlier long sold-out albums have been recently re-released with numerous bonus-tracks.

La fame e la danza
Ataraxia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
usurpate perchè tanto crudeli
Respirerò mille morti che non contano
respirerò mille morti
M'immergerò nell'abisso negato
e dunque perduto, perduto
Comprenderò le roventi sfere del buio
le voraci sfere del buio
Io ballerò davanti ai potenti,
agli schiavi, ai barbari e ai faraoni
e vedrò arrivare la Fame e la Danza
e la Giustizia su una giunca sfasciata...
Rose, Serve, Sorelle
Dee di cadute e rovine
Dee della luna appena sfiorata
Dee della razza muta
non mi avete ancora perduta...
The lyrics to Ataraxia's song La fame e la danza, which translates to Hunger and Dance, are both cryptic and profound, evoking emotions of loss, surrender, and mystical contemplation. The first stanza speaks of "peeled-off joys" and how they are usurped or taken away by cruelty, forcing the singer to experience a thousand deaths that do not matter. The usage of the verb "respirerò" (I will breathe) gives a sense of exhaustion and inevitability, as if the singer is resigned to a fate of suffering. In the second stanza, the singer immerses herself in a "denied abyss" and hence lost. She understands the "scorching spheres of darkness" and their voracity, which could be a metaphor for existential dread or a spiritual journey. The final stanza introduces the imagery of the divine feminine in various forms, such as "Rose, Serve, Sorelle" (Rose, Servants, Sisters), and "Dee" (Goddesses) of fallen ruins and the silent race. These symbols suggest a reverence for the feminine principle that endures despite the chaos and decay that surround it.
