Ataxia wrote and recorded songs for two weeks, and the material was separated into two albums: Automatic Writing (2004) and AW II (2007). The songs all feature a ground-bass line with the guitar overlaying different motifs and long developments.
Ataxia performed two shows, both at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, on February 2 and February 3, 2004. Following this, the group disbanded. Josh Klinghoffer continues to work with Frusciante on his solo projects.

Feelings we keep inside
And you are not in the right
And you've no reason to hide
It's that we must collide
Nothing can overwrite
And you are not on my side
And we will never arrive
Be quiet at times to learn
That's /Life's about to take a turn
And I am fixing to burn
From which I'll not return
A little bit of love
From somebody above
Life is addition in any way
There's no such time now as today, today
Saw you walking back from a nightmare
Won't change what you're to do, well I don't care
I grew up there and I wasn't scared
I am from there, I was born there
Forgive me if I cry
Look when you lifted the sky
Everybody emptied their slime
Those memories stole my side
And will you sit by my side,
If me not live past tonight?
Life isn't here and so streaming
What was the feeling to stream again, stream again?
I am becoming a voyeur
I am a small man, I told ya
I don't miss coming at all
Saw you walking back from a nightmare
Won't change what you're to do, well I don't care
I grew up there and I wasn't scared
I am from there, I was born there
Well that is what we cry
Feelings we keep inside
And you are not in the right
And you've no reason to hide
That's when we must collide
Nothing can overwrite
And you are not on my side
And we will not arrive
Saw you walking back from a nightmare
Won't change what you're to do, well I don't care
I grew up there and I wasn't scared
I was born there, I am from there
The lyrics of Ataxia's "Addition" are filled with emotive themes of loneliness, introspection, and the struggle for connection. The song reflects on an individual's personal relationships and how a lack of trust and understanding can destroy those relationships. The first verse highlights the conflict between two individuals, where one feels betrayed, and the other is hiding their true motives. The second verse speaks about the significance of being quiet, finding a moment of introspection, and realizing that life is fleeting.
The song's chorus talks about the importance of love, and how it should be shared with someone who has the same intention. The third verse delves deeper into the singer's struggles with their past and how it has made them feel like a small and insignificant person. The bridge talks about the singer's willingness to give in and let go of everything to embrace a new life. The final verse talks about the singer's hope that their past experiences will not repeat themselves in their new life.
In essence, "Addition" is a song that highlights the pain and challenges of forming intimate connections with others.
