Aterciopelados, whose name translates as "The Velvety Ones," was formed by former members of Delia Y Los Aminoacidos -- Andrea Echeverri, who plays acoustic guitar and sings lead, and Héctor Buitrago, who plays bass guitar. The original drummer Andres Giraldo* was replaced by Alejandro Duque in 1995 and the original guitar player Charlie Marquez was replaced by Alejandro Gomez Caceras in 1997. Also, lead singer Andrea Echeverri was chosen by Gustavo Cerati to sing "En la Ciudad de la Furia" for Soda Stereo's MTV Unplugged album.
Andrés Giraldo was also part of the Bogotá based band Bloque de Busqueda, known for their mix of artisan / folkloric music with a modern twist full of prominent beats.
Echeverri came out with a self-titled solo album in 2004, "Aemeo" is the lead song in this album.
The band recieved Grammy award nominations in 1997 and 1998.
In October of 2006 they released the album Oye, just a couple of months after Héctor Buitrago came out with his Conhector first solo album.

Que con eso no se juega
Si a la hora del rosario
Te da un bostezo ten cuidado
Yo rezaba todo el día
Pero la tentación llega
Lo mejor es no nombrarlo
Y ahora resulta que ayer lo conocí
Y no adivinan de él me enamoré
Oí su voz recia ay Dios
Me estremecí
Este hombre es el diablo
Turbada yo pensé
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Sus ojos de fuego
En mis pechos yo sentí
Se me subió todo
No me mires sumercé
Su espeso bigote
Me hizo cosquillas
En la nariz me besa y me olvida
Confiada yo esperé
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
En la casa me decían
Que con eso no se juega
Si a la hora del rosario
Te da un bostezo ten cuidado
Yo rezaba todo el día
Pero la tentación llega
Lo mejor es no nombrarlo
Huele a azufre es el diablo
Me hizo una pregunta
Entonces fue que enmudecí
No pude decirle que no
Por más que luche
Me envolvió en sus brazos
Y ahí si fue que me perdí
Y en el infierno me temo
Yo arderé
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Desde aquel día
En las llamas me consumí
Calor perpetuo maldición recibiré
Aquí no hay escape
Todo es pena, ay por ti tanto sacrificio
Y todo esto para qué
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
Toda la vida toda mi vida
He temido al diablo
The song "El Diablo" by Aterciopelados explores the temptation that the devil presents to believers. The lyrics describe the warning given by the singer's family not to play around with the devil, and the danger of yawning during prayer, as it could signify the devil's presence. The singer confesses to being tempted by the devil, and being seduced by his voice and fiery eyes. The singer is both afraid and fascinated by the devil, but ultimately succumbs to temptation, and is consumed by the flames of hell. The theme of the lyrics is the danger of temptation and the consequences of giving in to it.
The lyrics of "El Diablo" are rich in symbolism and metaphor. The devil is a powerful and seductive force, represented by the smell of sulfur, fiery eyes, and thick mustache. The singer's transformation from fear to fascination and eventual submission is portrayed through physical sensations, such as the feeling of being engulfed in flame. The warning given by the singer's family is also significant, as it reflects the Catholic tradition of demonology and spiritual warfare.

En la casa me decían
My family warned me
Que con eso no se juega
Not to play with fire
Si a la hora del rosario
Especially during prayer time
Te da un bostezo ten cuidado
Be careful if the devil makes you sleepy
Yo rezaba todo el día
I prayed all day long
Pero la tentación llega
But temptation still found me
Lo mejor es no nombrarlo
It's best not to speak of him
Huele a azufre es el diablo
The smell of sulfur is the devil's scent
Y ahora resulta que ayer lo conocí
But then I met him yesterday
Y no adivinan de él me enamoré
And to your surprise, I fell in love with him
Oí su voz recia ay Dios
His voice was rough and powerful
Me estremecí
I trembled with fear and awe
Este hombre es el diablo
This man is the devil
Turbada yo pensé
I was confused and lost in thought
Sus ojos de fuego
His eyes of fire
En mis pechos yo sentí
I felt them in my chest
Se me subió todo

No me mires sumercé
Don't look at me, sir

No pude decirle que no
I couldn't say no to him
Por más que luche
No matter how hard I fought
Me envolvió en sus brazos
He wrapped me in his arms
Y ahí si fue que me perdí
And then I was lost for good
Y en el infierno me temo
And now I fear I'm in Hell
Yo arderé
I will burn
Desde aquel día
Since that day
En las llamas me consumí
I've been consumed by the flames
Calor perpetuo maldición recibiré
I'll receive eternal damnation and heat

There's no escape here
