Aterciopelados, whose name translates as "The Velvety Ones," was formed by former members of Delia Y Los Aminoacidos -- Andrea Echeverri, who plays acoustic guitar and sings lead, and Héctor Buitrago, who plays bass guitar. The original drummer Andres Giraldo* was replaced by Alejandro Duque in 1995 and the original guitar player Charlie Marquez was replaced by Alejandro Gomez Caceras in 1997. Also, lead singer Andrea Echeverri was chosen by Gustavo Cerati to sing "En la Ciudad de la Furia" for Soda Stereo's MTV Unplugged album.
Andrés Giraldo was also part of the Bogotá based band Bloque de Busqueda, known for their mix of artisan / folkloric music with a modern twist full of prominent beats.
Echeverri came out with a self-titled solo album in 2004, "Aemeo" is the lead song in this album.
The band recieved Grammy award nominations in 1997 and 1998.
In October of 2006 they released the album Oye, just a couple of months after Héctor Buitrago came out with his Conhector first solo album.

Hay que bonito que era todo aquí
Nos bañábamos en oro
Y sembrábamos maíz
Verdadero paraíso
Muchas lunas fue así
Verdadero paraíso
El gran chaman
Posedor del saber ancestral
Desdoblaba entraba en trance
Predecía el porvenir
Verdadero paraíso
Muchas lunas fue así
Verdadero paraíso
Muchas lunas fue así
Bailábamos
La danza de la luvia
Fumábamos
La pipa de la paz
Hablábamos
Con la naturaleza
Buscabamos
La senda del jaguar
Era mágico
Vivían en otra dimensión
Enterraban a sus muertos
Como en suite presidencial
Verdadero paraíso
Muchas lunas fue así
Verdadero paraíso
Muchas lunas fue así
Oh si
Bailábamos
La danza de la luvia
Fumábamos
La pipa de la paz
Hablábamos
Con la naturaleza
Buscabamos
La senda del jaguar
Fumábamos
La pipa de la paz
The song "La Pipa De La Paz" by Aterciopelados takes the listener on a journey to a world that existed long ago, a world filled with beauty, peace, and magic. The lyrics invite the listener to imagine a time when everything was perfect, and people lived in harmony with nature. The song begins with the line "Ponte a pensar," which means "Start thinking." This line sets the tone for the entire song, as it encourages the listener to use their imagination and enter into a world that no longer exists.
The first verse describes a time when everything was beautiful and abundant. People bathed in gold and grew maize, living in a true paradise. The second verse introduces the great shaman who possessed the knowledge of the ancients. He was able to enter into trances and predict the future, adding to the mystical quality of this world. The chorus repeats the line "Verdadero paraiso, muchas lunas fue asi," which means "True paradise, it was like this for many moons." This line emphasizes the idea that this world persisted for a long time in isolation from the modern world.
The final verse describes the customs of this world, including the dance of the rain, smoking the pipe of peace, speaking to nature, and seeking the path of the jaguar. The final line, "Fumábamos la pipa de la paz," which means "We smoked the pipe of peace," repeats to emphasize the importance of this ritual in the culture that the song describes. Overall, the song invites the listener to imagine a time when people lived in harmony with nature, before modern life changed everything.
