As a band they wrote enough material to record a five song EP entitled "Sleep Comes In Interludes," which was recorded in Oneonta and produced by TJ Foster who was their former bandmate in The Cast Before The Break.
After releasing the EP, Athletics continued to write more material, until a cohesive group of songs were ready to record a full length record. The band recorded their debut full length record in Oneonta, NY over the course of a few months in the winter and spring of 2010. The tracks were produced by Moving Mountains' Greg Dunn, and later released on Deep Elm records as the album "Why Aren't I Home?" on October 26, 2010.
I Am Withdrawal
Athletics Lyrics

who knows how to make me feel alive.
I could just die right now,
and I'd be alright.
My head's in the clouds.
We're falling faster to the ground,
and the impacts we make will light up the sky tonight.
who knows how to make me feel alive.
I could just die right now,
and I'd be alright.
My head's in the clouds.
We're falling faster to the ground,
and the impacts we make will light up the sky tonight.
Fall into the sea.
Bring me to my knees.
Fall into the sea.
Bring me to my knees.
Fall into the sea.
Bring me to my knees.
Fall into the sea.
Bring me to my knees.
Fall into the sea.
Bring me to my knees.
Fall into the sea.
Bring me to my knees.
The lyrics of Athletics's song "I Am Withdrawal" describe a person who is addicted to something, seeking a fix or to be made to feel alive by someone else. The language of the lyrics is intense and emotional, with the repeated phrase "I could just die right now, and I'd be alright" emphasizing the desperation and dependence the singer feels towards their addiction. The metaphor of falling from the sky and making a big impact upon landing also represents the uncertainty and risk associated with this addiction.
The repeated refrain of "fall into the sea" and "bring me to my knees" further emphasizes the idea of surrendering to something greater or more powerful than oneself. The sea could be seen as a metaphor for the uncontrollable forces of life or the addictive substance itself, and the act of falling is a symbol of submission or giving in to this force.
Overall, the lyrics of "I Am Withdrawal" capture the intense emotions and struggles of addiction, while also using poetic language and metaphorical imagery to create a powerful and memorable song.
