While ARS would never reach the commercial success of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Marshall Tucker Band, the group had a strong following in the south and charted a number of hits such as "Imaginary Lover," "I'm Not Going to Let it Bother Me Tonight," "Champagne Jam," "So Into You," and a remake of a Classics IV hit, "Spooky."
The band also influenced a number of rock and country artists, notably Travis Tritt, who recorded a cover of the ARS songs, "Back Up Against the Wall" and "Homesick." The group Shudder to Think covered "So Into You."
Neon Nites

It was a neon night
A little glitter
Multi-colored slides
There was some high stepping
Oh, what a life
With those high rolling
Guess we had us
A high time or two
I remember those
Neon nights with you
Give me some high trotting
Sure got it on
Those oogie boogie
Honky tonky songs
You wore your silver stockings
We danced 'til dawn
Hootchie cootchie
Hard rocking all night long
Now the dance of bright lights
Make me blue
I miss those neon nights
With you
We were two crazy people
It was a neon night
A little glitter
Multi-colored slides
Nowadays the bright
Lights make me blue
Yes, they do
And I miss those
Neon nights with you
I miss those neon nights
The Atlanta Rhythm Section's song "Neon Nites" is a nostalgic ode to wild nights spent with someone special under the bright, colorful lights of a neon-lit city. The lyrics describe a couple who are caught up in the excitement of the night, dancing to upbeat oogie boogie and honky tonk songs while donning shiny, sparkly clothes. The passion between the two is palpable, as they high step and hard rock their way through the neon night. The singer remembers these moments fondly, admitting that he misses those neon nights with his partner.
The song captures a sense of freedom and abandon that comes with the night, surrounded by the electric energy of neon lights. It conveys a sense of longing for a time and place where everything was possible, where two people could let loose and live in the moment without inhibitions. The lyrics also reveal the singer's wistful nature, looking back on memories that he knows can never be replicated.

I love the way this song transitions from rock to country to jazz and back again. Truly a one of a kind song, and one of their best.
Mike Walsh
I like the transition, too. A couple great examples of that are Smarter by Ryan Hamilton and Pleas by Widespread Panic. Similar shift and pretty cool.
