Soul
Atlas Bound Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I don't really read much but
You're an open book
You're showing people what they wanna see
Before they even take a look

It seems that everything that you touch
Turns to silver and gold
You can take as much praise as you like
Despite the fact
Despite the fact you ain't got no soul
You ain't got no soul

You ain't got no soul my friend
No you ain't got none

You've been talking for awhile now
But not to much avail
You allow the story of yours
To turn into a grand old tale

I won't believe it til I see it cause
I don't believe what I am told
But you can take as much praise as you like
Despite the fact
Despite the fact you ain't got no soul
Despite the fact you ain't got no soul
Despite the fact

Despite the fact
Despite the fact you ain't got no soul

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Atlas Bound's self-titled track speaks of a person who is very good at presenting a façade to others. The singer acknowledges that this person is an open book and shows people what they want to see before they even take a proper look, but despite everything they do, they lack a soul. The person in question is praised for everything they touch, and they can take as much praise as they please. But all of this comes despite the fact that they are soulless. The lyrics question and challenge this person's character by suggesting that despite their outer persona, they lack authenticity and real substance.

The second verse also continues to expose the façade of the person being addressed. The singer describes them as having been talking for a while, but without much avail. Their story has turned into an exaggerated grand old tale, and the singer refuses to believe what they are told. Despite their abilities to present themselves in a positive light, they have failed to convince the singer of their authenticity. In the end, the lyrics suggest that the person being addressed has no soul. This is a challenging and often stark observation, leading the listener to question their own behaviour and that of those around them.
