Oblivion
Atreyu Matt Heafy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Not too long 'til the end of days
No hope to wash our sins away
Distracted by our misery
Happy in our destruction
Bound by insecurity
Embrace the hate, never set free
Smiles aren't fucking fooling me
When it all comes crashing down

Are we lost in oblivion?
Like a moth to the flame
Feel like we're falling faster
Fall in to the great disaster
Is there anybody out there
That's not going insane?
Feel like we're falling faster
Fall in to the great disaster

Sing and praise the damned today
Celebrate their infamy
Condemn our fellow man and say
There's no innocence in destruction
Cut ties with humanity
The savages are hunting me
Sucking my fucking soul away
Then it all comes crashing down

Are we lost in oblivion?
Like a moth to the flame
Feel like we're falling faster
Fall in to the great disaster
Is there anybody out there
That's not going insane?
Feel like we're falling faster
Fall in to the great disaster

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh

Are we lost in oblivion?
Like a moth to the flame
Feel like we're falling faster
Fall in to the great disaster
Is there anybody out there
That's not going insane?

Feel like we're falling faster
Fall in to the great disaster

Overall Meaning

Atreyu Matt Heafy's song "Oblivion" is a dark and ominous reflection on the destructive tendencies of humanity. The lyrics describe a world where the end is near, and there is no hope for redemption. The line "not too long 'til the end of days, no hope to wash our sins away" sets the tone for the entire song. The singer is distracted and pushed towards a path of destruction. The lines "Bound by insecurity, embrace the hate, never set free" describe the emotional state of the singer. He is consumed by his own insecurities and cannot break free from the cycle of hate and destruction.

The chorus of the song is a plea for salvation. The singer wonders if anyone else is experiencing the same sense of despair that he is. He asks if they too are lost in oblivion like a moth to a flame. The lines "feel like we're falling faster, fall into the great disaster" describe the inevitability of the situation. The singer and the rest of humanity are doomed to self-destruction.

The third verse of the song takes a darker turn than the previous ones. The singer suggests that perhaps there is no hope for humanity. He urges people to celebrate the infamy of the damned and condemns his fellow man. The line "cut ties with humanity" shows that the singer has given up on society as a whole. He is resigned to his fate and fears that the savages around him will consume his soul.

Overall, "Oblivion" is a bleak reflection on the state of humanity. It highlights the destructiveness of insecurity and hate, and the inevitability of self-destruction.
