callejero
Attaque 77 Lyrics

The lyrics of Attaque 77's song Callejero talk about a street dog that lived by his own rules and philosophy of freedom, which was to win his own battles without tying down others and never stepping on them. He didn't have an owner, but he belonged to everybody since he was born on the street. He was a dog of the people, always carrying the sun on his back and faithful to his destiny and beliefs. He didn't have a schedule for siesta and instead, he slept when he wanted to and woke up to greet the morning.
The dog was a metaphor for adventure, a symbol of something that couldn't be found in the dictionary. He was also a symbol of tenderness, something that people needed more of every day. The dog belonged to everybody and nobody at the same time, and he was loved by children and an old man named Pablo, who he rescued from his loneliness. The dog was a familiar figure in the neighborhood, the being that was a part of the landscape, just like the janitor, the priest, and everybody else. When he died, he left an empty space that was filled with nostalgia and emotion, remembered by the author in this song.
