The band was formed in 1993 by Tony Nwachukwu and Charlie Dark. Charlie Dark was a part time journalist and DJ and had been approached by James Lavelle to produce and engineer tracks for his Mo Wax record label.
Their first release, Vibes, Scribes and Dusty 45's Ep, contained the down tempo classic Contemplating Jazz. Featuring the vocals of third member Roba El-Essawy, Attica Blues' sound contained the trademark trip-hop aspects like heavy beats, vocals and deep dark atmospheres. They released a follow up album, Blueprint.
Attica Blues were also often solicited for remixing and producing.
After the Mo Wax album Blueprint, they released a second album, Test,Don't Test on Sony Records.

The lyrics of Attica Blues's song "Blueprint" describe an introspective and exploratory journey through one's own consciousness. The opening line, "Excursions through the inner mind's eye," suggests that the singer is delving deep into their own psyche, perhaps through meditation or another form of introspection. The subsequent lines reference the passing of time, with "morning's sun" and a "moon blue indigo" indicating both the beginning and ending of a cycle.
The phrase "Blueprint" is repeated throughout the song, suggesting that the singer has discovered a plan or structure within their own mind. The lines "Children run come follow" and "past tense of the intent" suggest that the singer may be leading others on this journey or looking back on past intentions with a new perspective. The final stanza references a "basement contemplation" and "archive excavation," perhaps indicating that the singer is uncovering memories or emotions that were previously hidden away.
Overall, the lyrics of "Blueprint" suggest a deep and transformative journey through one's own consciousness, with the repeated refrain of "spying the blueprint" indicating a newfound sense of clarity or purpose.

It's kinda crazy how the trip-hop movement was overshadowed by Portishead and Massive Attack. I absolutely love both bands and by no means I'm trying to discredit them but daaaammmnn albums like this are rarely mentioned. Thanks for the upload, looking forward to get it on vinyl.

It's one of those catch 22's in that if you're strict you could say the only real Trip Hop artists are Portishead, Massive Attack and Tricky: all born in Bristol, all involved in the definition of the first albums at the beginning of the 90s, all connected, way or another, to the Sound System culture. But like you say trip hop is considered so much larger and thank god this album is still one of those gems that people still consider one of the best. https://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScientist/rym-ultimate-box-set-downtempo-trip-hop/
