I
Au-Dessus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am the shapeless sorrows that crawls out of your eyes
A senseless gaze that pierces through frightened skin
And puts minds into a lethargic sleep
Unseen wayfarer which brings life onto its knees
Freezes thoughts and takes away your fabled dreams
Im your prison and im your escape

Overall Meaning

The song "I" by Au-Dessus presents a somewhat grim and eerie perspective on an entity or force that exists within the human psyche. The lyrics describe this entity as the shapeless sorrows that crawl out of one's eyes, which is essentially an embodiment of pain and suffering that we experience in our lives. The entity is portrayed as a wayfarer that can't be seen, but its presence is felt in the form of a senseless gaze that pierces through our skin, putting our minds into a lethargic sleep.

The entity is presented as a polarizing force, capable of both taking away our fabled dreams and acting as a prison or an escape. This duality emphasizes the complexity of our emotions and the inner conflict that exists within us. It's a reminder that we are not just one thing, but a conglomeration of different feelings and experiences.

Overall, the song presents a deep and challenging perspective on the human psyche and the complex emotions that we experience in our lives. It's a powerful reminder that our inner turmoil is just as complex and nuanced as the world around us.

For me, as a Lithuanian and a big metalhead, it's so cool to see how many BM bands started to come out of Lithuania.

Fazia pouco tempo que não ouvia uma banda com alta performance são poucas que me agradam e os Au-Dessus conseguiram, entraram no hall das grandes bandas que eu tenho com altar e adoração espero que continue com este lindo trabalho.

I haven't even finished listening to this whole album yet and I'm already feeling like this is one of my favorite black metal releases I've heard in quite some time. Along with Mgla's "With Hearts Towards None" and Batushka's "Litourgiya" this def ranks up there for originality while still maintaining that essence of evil that makes it so magnificent. This is my first introduction to the band so I am looking forward to going back and checking out their EP that so many are saying could be even better. Seems Eastern Europe is breeding for the future of black metal these days. Amazing

@blackacidblood No worries man, at the end of the day, music comes from the heart, and not from some place on the map. 😉🤘

@ninja turtles fan Apologies for my lack of geographical accuracy. My roots are Viking/pagan from Sweden and Scotland so I guess the rest is southeast from there lol. Much props to Lithuania, Regredior and Ghoststorm were two favorites of mine when I first got into the metal underground in the mid 90s. Fact is great metal can come from anywhere and absorbs a natural dark folk element of its surroundings whether intentional or not. I find black metal appealing because the emotions in the music are so intense. Hail to all metal heads around the world \m/ again apologies for my ethnocentric ignorance :P
